UGHHHH...I know EXACTLY what you are going through.  About 6 months ago, I discovered this red area in my mouth.  It triggered a whole bunch of things for me.  I started at the most awful dentist.  She was so mean....and had no info.  She gave me a perscription for a fungal infection.  That made me panic...big time!!  I spent the next few months on the internet, and crying.

THEN by the grace of God, I was talking to my sister in law about it, and she worked for an oral surgeon.  She got me an appointment.  He saw me and put my mind at ease.  He was able to look in my mouth and say "its not cancer", and "you're not dying".  He referred me to a naturalist type of doc, which I haven't gone because she doesn't accept insurance.

Sorry for the long post.  I guess my point is, you need to find a good doc.  Can you see different dentist??  I'm sure its not cancer.  The oral surgeon told me I had like little to no risk factors.  I am 33 female, and I don't smoke.  Most oral cancers are males over 65, with a history of smoking and chewing tobacco.

Welcome to America. I know how you feel. It's really frustrating, I mean where do these people get off charging 55 bucks for a 10 minute visit and referral to a specialist? It's insane I know. Once upon a time I dislocated my knee cap. And after a 4 hour wait in the emergency room (while in excruciating pain), they charged me 1500 dollars for literally a 10 second procedure. They should've paid me after waiting that long.

I realize you are upset but it is pretty standard that you need a referral to see an oral surgeon.  My daughter had an atonic seizure about 18 months ago that caused her to fall flat on her face.  Her tooth met the hardwood floor first and broke at the gumline.  I called her dentist, who called me back and all that.  She was at a Bills game but said she'd meet us at her office.  I told her that to enjoy the game and we'd go to the ER and see the dentist there to make sure it was a clean break and all that rot.  Long story short she called me later on and told me that she called in the referral for the Oral surgeon.  We got in the next morning to have the remnant removed and her gums stitched up.  My hubby had a bump type thing on his tongue at his last dentist appointment.  The dentist said to watch for a week or so then come back.  If it hadn't healed she would give him a referral to an oral surgeon.

The dentist told you it wasn't cancer.  He is never going to say 100% because that is just the way it is.  NO doctor says 100% anymore.  If you have a long standing relationship with this dentist, he would have likely given you a referral straightaway and just billed you for the $55.  If you were a new patient, it is less likely they would do that.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

But IT should.  the dentist said  " nahh its not' im like are u sure? he said "not 100% sure"

You are never going to get a 100%, even from an oral surgeon---unless he did a biopsy.  Even then biopsy's have a margin of error.

The thing is with health anxiety you are NEVER ever going to be 100% sure you aren't dying from something.  Medicine is not a 100% assurance.  You can go to doctor to doctor spending money and never get that complete assurance.  In part because a person with health anxiety is going about solving his or her concerns the wrong way. Yes that sucks and yes that can be scary especially for folks with health anxiety.  But, again, that is the way life is most times.  There is no assurance we have tomorrow coming to us.  But if we dwell on that small chance that we are going to die from some blip on our radar screen that can occur daily, then life is going to be pretty, darned dismal.

Honestly, I would take that the dentist said no, while he qualified it with you questioning him, and relax.  Once you've saved up the $55 to pay him for his services, then get the referral.  That is if the bump is still there AND you are still concerned about it.

It is a huge red patch on the roof of my mouth.  I have no clue what it is.  The oral surgeon thought it might be a reaction to something.  Something I'm allergic to.  Its not raised...but its red.  Its still there....he told me it was fine, and referred me to this lady that uses a lot of natural things.  BUT, she doesn't take insurance, and it would cost me an arm and a leg....so, here I sit with this thing.  I try not to think about it too much!  You're fine, your doc didn't seem concerned.  If he thought it was serious, he would have given you the referrel stat, and not worried about $55.
