I think I forgot to take my pills
« on: April 25, 2010, 06:18:03 PM »
I think I forgot to take my Effexor XR last night and I don't know what to do.  I have a daily pill reminder and Saturdays are still in there but I don't know if I took Sundays by mistake since it is empty.  I have been shaky all day and have the brain zaps.  My husband doesn't think that missing one pill would cause a reaction this quick but I don't know what else it could be.  How long should I wait to take my pills again?  I usually take them about 7:00 p.m. and it is now 3:00 p.m.  Is that too soon?  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

do you think you took sunday's instead of saturdays?  It is an easy enough thing to do.  The reaction you are getting is probably from you worrying about if you took them or not.  Believe me my daughter takes a lot of medication.  I have gotten myself worked up dealing with her meds before.

My suggestion is to just calm down.  There was really no harm done here.  Just take your meds at the usual time.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Thank you so much sixpack for your reply.  It did help my high anxiety that is for sure.
I don't think I took Sunday's pills since that is the day I usually fill my pill container for the week.  All the days were empty except for Saturday.  What makes me think I skipped my dose is that I woke up in the middle of the night and the room was spinning and I was seeing flashes of lights all over.  That has never happened to me before.  When I got up this morning I checked my pill box and noticed Saturday's were still there.  I have terrible medication anxiety and so I started second guessing myself.  I like to take my pills at or around the same time each day and not deviate.  I was hoping that someone would have experienced something similar and could tell me that it was okay to take the pills a few hours earlier.  I've been trying to keep myself busy and not think about it but it is hard when my eyes are jumpy and I'm shaky.  Oh the joys of anxiety!
Many, many thanks!

I do the same with my daughter.  I have a pill box for her too.  I try to always get the meds to her--morning/evening within one hour's time space.  Like this morning I gave her meds at 6:30am (she had a seizure at 6:45 pssh) so I'll give her the evening meds between 6 and 7pm.

Now that it is the morning of the 26th, you've taken your Sunday meds and I'm sure you are feeling much calmer.  Just know that these things happen once in a while.  You will be okay.  It is better, imo, to miss a dose than to double up.
