Can 1 person please just answer
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:25:39 AM »
Hi, if one person could please just answer me it would be sooooo helpful.  I need to know Im not alone.  I have had this pain in my butt bone (coccyx bone) but did NOT injure it.  It pains off and on and I am convinced it is a tumor on my coccyx bone.  I am too terrified to go to the doctor.  Does anyone ever think about pain and the pain get worse?  Is this a NORMAL THOUGHT if there is one of hypochondria?  Please just someone answer me.  Do you think pain or symptoms can be IMAGINED?  Please someone let me know.  Thanks and God Bless

I am not a hypo.. but I do have physical problems related to my anxiety.  Yes if I obsess about my own pains they can get worse. stress can make physical ailments worse (even mental ones). I don't know what you should do about it, I don't understand this area, sorry, I just wanted you to know I did hear you...

I have anxiety and i can tell you that each and every day there is a new symptom.  I also know that if you constantly focus on the symptom it will 'hurt' even more. If you told yourself that it was a tumor, what makes you think that you are right?  I do this to myself constantly and I am not a medical doctor so who am I to self-diagnose myself and think I am right.  I do have a tumor (benign) in my hip bone and guess what, had I not had an xray on my kidney I would have never known it because it doesn't hurt.  It could be muscle tension or you might have injured it and not known.  But the only way you can be sure is to go to the doctor and have it checked out.  I know that you might be fearful to do so but I think it would be worse to not have it checked.  You could go and get the problem resolved and move on from it.

I hope I helped you out some and hang in there...you WILL get better!

OOOH yeah, EVERYTIME i think of something it gets a hell of alot worse. one day my leg was kinda numb after i played basketball and then i couldent stop thinking about it because i was just constantly thinking it was because of somthing alot worse. so the whole week my leg was pretty much tingly and numb. then the next week i for some reason stopped thinking about it and it was like it was never there. so its kinda crazy all the crap your mind can cause to happen.

I have to agree, we totally intensify a symptom by focusing on it. Ive had a strange discomfort in my throat, and i am soooo focused on it, it feels huge,(the sensation, that is) I wish i could just relax and let it go.  wise person once told me "let it go, and it will let you go..." I think i need to follow that. thanks for sharing-Athina
