Weird New Symptoms
« on: April 15, 2010, 05:16:01 PM »
Hello.  Long story short, last summer I was diagnosed with GAD, my symptoms having been primarily dizziness, shaking arms & legs, weird emotional stuff, etc.  Anyway, I got on lexapro, and over time the symptoms, for the most part, went away.  A few months ago, I got off the lexapro and had been doing quite well.  Anyway, last week I noticed I had mild pain and weakness in my arms and hands, primarily at the joints, which has persisted through today.  It's different than any symptom I've had since the onset of the GAD.  It's provoked the old internal debate about whether I really have GAD, or maybe something worse.  I guess I should be grateful I just have these symptoms, the original ones were far worse.  Has anyone else had this strange new symptom as part of their GAD experience, if so, how long did it persist, and was there anything you did to minimize it or make it go away?

anxiety can do just about anything to a person.  I mean its symptoms morph and change then sometimes come back to the old faithful ones.

I have accepted that I react physically to stress.  It can sometimes be my barometer of how stressed out I am.  So when I'm not being berated by stressful things, my aches and pains are minimal.  When I'm anxious or worrying or overthinking, well, I get all kinds of weird stuff happening.  So I'm not really bothered by the physicality of it all anymore.  But what would be helpful is if I'd let go of all the overthinking.  Which is really spurred on by my hang up of being over responsible.  If things go wrong---some how I could have prevented it or fixed it.  Ya hard way to live thinking like that.  lol.  But it is pretty much part of my personality, I think.

What may be helpful to you is thinking about what makes you tick?  You may be able to do this using self-help books or you may need a therapist to get you started.  Perhaps once you find what triggers all of the anxiety, you may be able to minimize it.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
