How long before lexapro works?
« on: January 05, 2007, 06:03:14 PM »
Hi,
i am just wondering how long did lexapro take to work for u before you got any benefit?
I was on 5mg for 10 days, am on 10mg for the last four days and my anxiety is as bad if not worse than it was when i started.
i know the official info sayd it can take 4-6 weeks for the full effect but dont want to wait that long to feel  a bit better.
I had tried effexor before  and it seemed to work within about 10 days.
thanks

SSRIs tend to take 2-3 weeks to have an effect although the anti-anxiety effect is mean to be sooner. Your anxiety may be worse to start with then you should notice an effect.

Good luck with it.

Hi:
Hope you're feeling better.
Everybody is different. They usually take 4-6 weeks to be effective, if at the correct doseage. With some of the SSRI's and SNRI's, the side effects are increased anxiety, agitation, etc. Give it a few weeks if the symptoms are bearable. If not, don't hesitate to ask the Doc for something else.
Are you taking any benzos in the meantime as they will give some immediate relief until the Lexapro kicks in?

thanks for the advice, feel a bit less anxious this week.
I was taking benzos (bromazepam), but they were making me feel groggy and tired, i have taken them before with no major  problems but this time they dont seem to agree with me, hopefully the lexapro will get better and i wont need the benzos.
