VALIUM ANYONE??
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:35:26 PM »
I have been on 8 mg of Klonipin for a while now and am still having bad anxiety.Go figure. Enough Klonipin to knock out a horse, but No, I have attacks....... Yesterday my Doctor prescribes Valium as he claims it has a longer half-life than Klonipin. I only have to take it twice a day versus 4 to 5 times. First, I asked him if they still made the stuff. Thought it was ancient. And I'm nervous as hell about switching.
Anyone out there on Valium for anxiety? How is it working? Thanks everyone!!

I took 10mg for like a week and got sick of it. The first few times were extraordinary. Brought me right back to normal. But your body builds up a tolerance after a while. The side effects are also very real. I heard voices in my head one night and it actually made my anxiety worse a few times. Take with caution.

Thanks. I knew someone would respond sooner or later. What do you mean by you got sick of it? I didn't know voices were a side effect.  I guess it's like any other benzo as far as building a tolerance to.

Valium was never marketed for the treatment of anxiety.  It's a tranqualizer but it doesn't work on the areas of the brain that anxiety originates from.  Xanax and Klonipin are more for anxiety.  But in a panic attack situation, a Valium is better than nothing.

I switched from klonopin (3 years of taking it) to valium (diazepam).  I really believe that the Valium should only be used AS NEEDED.  IT TOO will lose its effectivness as you take each pill.  It happened to me with klonopin.  IT WILL happen to anyone who takes BZ's.  I hate to say it but the only thing, in my opinion that will kill the root of the anxiety is an SSRI.  Dr's claim that anxiety / depression are caused by seratonin reuptake.  The bit@# of it is (for me anyway) is that Celexa (SSRI) causes pretty bad short term (while titrating up) anxiety / panic attacks.  I was thinking that perhaps its the increase in neurotransmitter activity that is causing my increased anxiety...but what do i know...Im not Dr.

Good luck.  Sorry I wasn't more helpful.

Thank you for your responses.
Actually, Valium is designated as a treatment for GAD and panic disorders. I have found that the SNRI's work better for some, as do the MAOI's, depending on which "neurotransmitters" we are misfiring. The left or the right side... ::) For me, who knows. I have been on every one known to man. Sometimes they work for a little while, then back to square one. After soooo many years of this, you think we or they (the medical world) would have this figured out so we didn't have to suffer.
