Sexual Side Effects from SSRI's and SNRI's
« on: April 05, 2010, 09:43:22 PM »
Does anyone have an opinion on the sexual side effects of the SSRI's and SNRI's?  I'd love to know if you switched because it was an issue and if you were successful finding a medicine that gave you your drive (or some of it) back?

I'm sorry to report that almost every antidepressant and psychiatric medication has a high likelihood of sexual side effects.  That said, I take Lexapro and my libido is fine.  Although Lexapro kills the sex lives of many people.

Zoloft and celexa don't give to me any sexual side effects while paxil was killing my libido. It really depend for each person.

Have any of you guys taken a "Drug Holiday" on Zoloft or Paxil?  My doc mentioned it and it's where you take your last dose on Thursday and then skip Friday and Saturday and take your next dose Sunday morning.  It's supposed to help bring back your sex drive, but I worry I'll start going through withdrawal on Zoloft, but my pdoc said she has people do it all the time.  Thoughts?  Experiences?

Yes, I tried adding Wellbutrin to my Paxil years ago and it seemed to be not so great for my anxiety.  There was no change in drive.

You may want to try Ginko Biloba for sexual side effects from SSRI's.  Has been a few studies showing very positive results.  Personally it has helped me a lot.  Its very cheap and can be found at any drug store, Dollar General, etc.  I haven't had any bad side effects from Ginko.
