Cancer text
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:23:53 PM »
I got a text from a friend today and it had to do with cancer. You know, one of those ones about forwarding it to get awareness going. And now, I'm sure it was like some kind of a sign and that I have this. I am freaking out guys. Why won't this just go away? I am so sick of feeling this way. Nothing ever gets better.

Oh gosh I'm the same way. I'm definitely a cancerphobe and I have a really hard time during October when EVERYTHING is labled in pink to promote breast cancer awareness. I literally avoid going shopping all through October just because of this. Silly, eh? I'll start freaking about those emails too, or 0409 updates that have something to do with cancer. I have a running joke with my neice that I get my "daily dose of cancer" every day in some means - reading something, on the news, a billboard, just walking through a store, etc. The printed word is EVERYWHERE and everytime I read it, a little panic attack happens in my head for a brief moment.  Even the title of your post made me jump, but in my own therapy, I made myself open it.  I'm the same way about other diseases, but my big one is cancer. (And I shudder when I even have to type the word.) Cancer, cancer, cancer --- like nails on chalkboard.

I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones who feel this way, but sometimes it's good to work through it by facing it sometimes. I know I'm MUCH better than I was a few years ago. I can open a post now and type the word . :)

I  the same way!!  Ugh. Everytime I see the "c" word my stomach kind of drops. And during breast cancer month google has the little pink ribbon on their webpage. I had to change browsers for the month. You are definately not alone.

Thinking you see "signs" is very much characteristic of someone with HA.  I was/am the same way.  I try to logically think things through before I panic now.  Your mind is just focused on these things, thats why you're seeing them more often.   For example, last year we bought a VW Beetle.  When I first got it, I saw them EVERYWHERE!  I couldn't believe how many I'd see in a day.  I just did the same thing yesterday.  We bought a camper trailer.  I saw them all over the road yesterday.  My mind was just more open to seeing them.  The same thing with diseases.  PLUS....cancer awareness is everywhere these days.  Don't worry...you're not getting "signs"  :happy0151:

Ha ha oh gosh, I on occasion have those tendencies as well. A couple months ago remembered my grandmother passing of cancer and then next thing u know...I somehow manage to convince myself I'm dying of cancer. My wife thankfully has yet to think I'm nutty..bless her soul. Lol

Oh I know how you feel! One day I was on my 0409 and some group called Support Cancer added me as a friend, I about died. I thought it was a bad omen or something. Haha. I get cancer emails all the time and one day me and my boyfriend were going out to lunch and he turned down on a street called Hodgkins. I flipped out, I thought it was a sign  :laugh3:
