Anxiety and Fatigue
« on: December 25, 2006, 05:27:45 PM »
I am just curious, how tired does your anxiety make you.  I actually feel tired and really sick and run down a lot.  If I work out I feel really sick afterward. I haven't been working out because it seems like the workout takes up all of my energy.  I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome(one doctor)  But anxiety has been a major factor in my illness. Does anyone feel this way with anxiety?  It feels so disgusting- like my whole body is sick.

hi aquarius,

i'm sorry you are feeling so yucky.  i really believe that chronic worry can take a toll on our physical bodies after a while... i have been a worried mess since i was a kid & used to only have the mental worries to contend with. but, i find as i get older that my body is also being affected as well.  the mind & body are not separate... i have also been dx'd with chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia which can definitely be brought on by chronic stress.  i totally understand how hard it is to feel so low mentally & then feel so sick physically as well. you are not alone in this!

I feel tired everyday too. With me I can't tell wether it is anxiety or just really horrible seasonal allergies. I used to wonder why I was always so tired, now I've just accepted it and it really doesn't effect me anymore because I'm not dwelling on it.

I feel quite exhausted at the end of the day as well.  I am not convinced that it is just the anxiety or if it is my meds.  It is horribly frustrating though.

Fatigue is my number one symptom for the last 4 months- and it is fueling my current hypochondria crisis.  I am so scared that the fatigue is a sign of some major illness.  I do have slightly low red blood cell counts, and hemaglobin, but with normal ferritn and iron levels, which rules out iron def. anemia.  I need to go back to doc and get my blood retested, but I am scared to.  I am always checking my fingernails to see if they are pink, and looking in my lower eye lid area to see if its pink.  I am wondering if the fatigue is from CFS maybe?  But there is no real difinitve test for it, my doc says its a diagnosis of exclusion.  Great... more uncertainty.  I wonder if the constant fear and self awareness of whether I may be feeling fatigue is making me fatigued??  Its like the chicken or the egg- did the fatigue cause the anxiety or is the anxiety causing the fatigue??  To those of you fatigued- do  you feel like your body is physically tired?  In my caase, my body doesnt feel tired, but I feel drowsy, like I want to take a nap all the time.  Is drowsiness the same thing as fatigued??

Yes this is my worst symptom.  And to those people that say "you just have to get up and get busy, then you wouldnt be so tired"  WHATEVER   The more I do the faster I burn out and need to sleep.

And for me the meds make me more tired.  errrrr

Maybe its just that when I sleep I dont feel the uncomfortable symptoms I am plagued with??

No...I'm just emotionally AND physically tired.

Do you ever get those good days?   You know where there are no symptoms and your not tired?  Once in a while I have a day like that and think....God if only I could feel like this more often!!  Is that how normal people feel?

Just ranting   sorry

Hey guys, I know what you mean with fatigue. I have gotten off caffeine, quit cigarettes, no wacky tobacky, I have completely cleaned up my health and and I'm still so tired all the time. Im, as usual, convinced I have diabetes, MS, cancer, or an enlarged heart ( I almost laugh at it these days). Back in my college days, I was able to just go workout and I would feel like a million bucks. Now I'm tired after I work out, my stamina is not their, and i get panic attacks while Im engaged in physical activity. I have had a horrendous case of anxiety for like my whole life (started reading medical dictionaries when I was 10) and I just cant decide if its depression / anxiety (I always have like one to two month spans where my anxiety manifests itself as something different) or if my life style just finally caught up with me (im 27). Is it natural to lose energy at this age? Like i said I've been a light to moderate smoker since 18, but It used to never bother me. What do ya think? Im not on any medications. but might start. I want energy, I just became single again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is strange that people that have anxiety have the same symptoms of "CFS" patients.  I wonder if they are the same illness.  Like someone else here posted what came first- the anxiety or the physical symptoms. I feel that I got really sick first then the anxiety came.  I think that anxiety takes a lot out of your body.  It  just beats you up everday!!

This is something that I can elaborate on so much.
I am a runner, and the feeling I get from it is so great, but it doesn't last long before my mind starts going again.
My anxiety, tires me out so so much. All my energy gets put into my constant state of worrying, and that makes me too tired to do anything at the end of the day.
I often find it hard to sleep at night because my mind is always going. When I wake up the next morning, it's like another day that I have to deal with and my body feels weighted down with a cement block.
The things I once loved, like running, have been put at a halt seeing as though my anxiety is getting a little bit harder to manage.

Hang in there, I know what you're going through!!

I hate how tierd i always feal. I got 12 hours of sleep last night and i still feal i am tierd.
I am a total neat freak and i use to be able to make my room fale less in like 20 minuets, now im lucky if i am able to get some what tiddy in an hour. I switched from takeing pills in the morning to takeing them at night. It has help a little but notr totally.
I was reading in a book about anxiety disease and in a list of symtoms was fatigue, but i am not sure if its cause of the disease or my meds.

Fatigue hits me like a freight train.

From being a very fit, always exercising/gym, energetic individual I've been really hit hard, at one point walking to the toilet was hard work. I'm not sure if I have co-morbid CFS.

I think that fatigue is a central symptom in terms of anxiety.  The worrying itself can be laboring and draining of all energy.  In addition, I think that the anxiety has a role in making us feeling fatigued before we even begin an activity.  There are times that I wake up in the morning - already feeling tired.
