stools and cold sweats
« on: December 21, 2006, 11:34:55 AM »
Today I went to the bathroom and had a very big bowl movement. It came out soft but still formed. Sorry for being so gross ! During the bowl movement I felt a little shaky and cold sweats came over me with slight nausea. It really scared me ! Did anybody experience that before ? I have it every once in a while and I get really scared when that happens.  Should I worry ? Just to let you know about my G.I history a little bit :
2,5 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. I hope they did enough tests (sigmoidoscopy, blood test, test for celiac disease, x-rays, CT scans , Upper barium GI.) I have lot's of gas, flatuance, sometimes frequent stools or the feeling of not empting the bowls completly, abdominal discomfort ( many times on the left side).
Do I need to worry about the stool and cold sweats ? I took my temperature after that but it was normal.

What you experienced is perfectly normal with IBS. I have it too, and there have been times that I have also gotten hot flashes, with nausea, feel like I am going to pass out, and then get chills. It is really en exhausting experience. I usually just lie down for a little until I feel better. My mom has it to, and she has the same thing happen. I would just look at some ways to make the IBS as comfortable as possible for you. I take natural enzymes from the health food store to help with digestion.

Thanks for responding ! Do you think I had enough tests to rule out anything serious ? My doctor wouldn't do a
colonoscopy on me because of my age and because all the other tests came back normal. I just felt fine yesterday and didn't have any anxiety over it but as soon I am feeling unwell again I get this fear that they might miss something. I am evan on a high dose of celexa which helps my depression from these symphtoms but it suppose to help also with anxiety. Well I still have health anxiety everytime I feel worse again. I am trying to reach my doctor since a week but he just wouldn't call me back. Is he just tired of my constant worry ?

Yes, I think they did plenty of test to rule out any serious conditions. Trust me! When I was first diagnosed with IBS it was after I went to the ER with severe abdominal cramping. They did all sorts of things. That is what they came up with. You can have all sorts of uncomfortable symptoms with this. If  you get apins in ribs and your back, that is also normal. Things that help me is figuring out what foods make me have gas, and which foods irritate my bowels. It is reconfiguring how you eat. Baths and teas help too.

Thanks for your quick responds. Did they do a colonoscopy on you or pretty much the same test they did with me ?
The weired thing is that one day a certain food bothers me and the next day it doesn't. I also have this discussting flatuance which I of course I only let out at home. Even when I am sleeping I have it and my last meal is usually 6:00 o'clock . I need constant reassurance ! I guess I am a real Hypochondriac !!!

Just thought I'd let you know that I've had the same problem with stools before.  Thet did a colonoscopy on me (I'm 24, they only did that because I have a very significant family history of colon cancer) and it all came out fine.  Blame IBS it sucks.  I'm sure they did plenty of tests to determine IBS and I hope you get some relief from it soon.  Good luck
