No worry, but still symptoms of anxiety. WORRIED!!!
« on: January 28, 2010, 11:20:32 PM »
yet i'm not worried. it's weird. Anyone else get this? I don't have the fear and the worrying, but i still have the "side effects" of anxiety or GAD or whatever. HELP!!! Has anyone ever tried Buspar? Is that an effective medication? I am just coming of of Celexa because it was too strong for me. The side effects were almost worse than having anxiety itself. Now I'm worried because I've been reading articles online that say Buspar isn't really for people with severe anxiety. But i don't know if what i have is considered severe or not. I don't worry all day and night, just during certain periods. So that's my story. :angel-smiley-006:

TimDaisy you got a good description of what celexa have done to me. I know this trip. I thought there could be nothing worse than my current level of anxiety, until I try celexa. I was not really scarred of SSRIs until this. I thought they would be all much the same (for side effects) like paxil and zoloft. I was wrong.

I'm not sure about the symptoms without fear and worrying, but I guess it's like headaches and dizziness that I've sometimes even if I don't really feel anxious. I suppose it takes a while for the body on the "calm mode" for those effects to disappear, like at the opposite: it takes time for a certain anxiety level to build. I never tried buspar, but it appears to be approved since 1986 by the FDA for GAD. My doctor completely rejected it saying there's no evidence of its success (in science). But it comes from the same doctor that think about withdrawals to last a time based on half life only, and from the same giving to me a bad diagnosis that was about to drive me on a really crazy road (completely at opposite of another doctor) so I'm not taking this seriously at all. Buspar is classified as an anti anxiety with no addiction like benzos and no weird hellish anxiety rebound like benzos on long term with a high dose. Also the good effect doesn't disappear after a while, like it does on benzos for some people (like me!). I think it's a good idea to try it, but more if SSRIs failed for you. Buspar is still on my list of things to try.

I was researching it some more, and it seems like a good bet. Here's what sold me; My father, who has almost all of the same anxiety symptoms as I do, takes buspar, and says that it is working great for him. Since he's my dad, i'd assume that we have similar body chemistry, so hopefully that means we should respond to a medication the same way. Still nervous about it. Oh well, i just gotta dive into it.

I would certainly be reassured to know that my father is doing good on it, before to try it myself. You have strong chances to feel the same way. It's also not a scary med, like some others (it's my opinion). And if you ever think about the placebo effect, we just don't care about this. We just want to feel good.

I have some underlying fears that contribute to my anxiety, fear of losing my mind.  However, I often have days were I feel anxious for no real reason.  In CBT they ask you to challenge your negative thoughts to help reduce your anxiety.  I often found this difficult as some days I didn't what it was it was just there.

I like the Clare Weekes description of over sensitised nerves, that when someone has been anxious the nerves become over sensitised and can react to anything/everything.  I just have to accept that somedays I'm anxious for no particular reason.

However, it sounds to me that you are anxious about changing meds, even this can trigger it.

That's pretty much the bottom line right there.  When the nerves are sensitized, there doesn't have to be a specific trigger that causes anxiety.  Anxiety can manifest itself at any time because we are living in a constant state of elevated anxiety.

Tim...I would ask you this:  You say that you "don't have the fear or the worrying".  But...when is the last time that you never even THOUGHT about whether or not you were worried or had fear?  If a person regularly evaluates whether or not they are having anxiety, then that means there is STILL anxiety present.

But...the fact that you can say that you don't have any noticeable fear and worry most assuredly means that you have improved.  That's a good thing!  Anxiety is very manageable when it is not quite so noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback. Heres an update: I am still on Buspar. I am now off of Celexa. My stomach just couldn't take the Celexa anymore. I am currently taking Zantac daily to help with stomach issues (which is working). I couldn't take it before because it has a bad reaction to Celexa. I am feeling fairly good on it now, for it seems to be fast acting. I am still worried that the med won't have a long lasting effect because of many negative reviews I've read about it. But i can't worry about that. Am also broke at the moment, so i can't afford to do my counceling sessions weekly like i was. Not even sure if it's working. I have to apply for medicaid. Another big task that is causing me a great deal of anxiety. I have doctor's bills, I owe taxes, I seem to be accruing a lot of debt all of the sudden. On the bright side, i could be much worse off. I don't have college loans to pay off so...

Looking to go back to college too. Anyway back to the Buspar; My father takes that and anti-depressants. I am worried that maybe the Buspar doesn't do anything and it's all the anti-depressants he's on that's benifitting him. At the same time, I don't want to be on another AD if it's going to have that effect on me again. I need a second job, but am having anxiety about going through the motions of finding one again.

Thank you for listening to my stream-of-concious type Update.

I have been prescribed buspar and so has my dad before. It did nothing for me, It made me feel weird, and it did the same to my dad. I am not saying that buspar would do this to everyone. But listen closely I have been told by my psychiatrist if you have been on like xanax, klonopin, or like ativan, that buspar would not work for you, I guess because you will not get that same affect as what you were used too! Thats what he told me because the PA had prescribed me buspar when I had been on xanax for 2 years and klonopin for 6 months. The only thing I have read about buspar is that it only helps a small group of people and it doesn't help everyone!!! Good luck with it though, I hope someone would succeed on it. I am now on 1mg of klonopin!
