Toilet Phobia?
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:19:02 AM »
Hey all,

Does anyone else suffer from a toilet phobia?

As I have read, there are many variations to this phobia.
Personally, I deal with the fear that a bathroom is never close enough.
I fear that I won't be able to get to a bathroom in time and always scout out the stores/restaraunts for the bathroom as soon as I get there.
At times, I will decline an invitiation somewhere if I believe the bathroom situations is not good.
Anyone else deal with this?
And if so, how do you cope?

During my worst panic attacks i would always be running for a restroom, made going to a store or a mall horrible.

I can totally understand that "physical feeling."

yeah few years back i wasnt really having big problems with anxiety exCEPT for that !
i went places but ALL the things you"re saying applied to me
annnd
i would even time when i was eating and make sure i went to the bathroom before i went anywhere

it just has something to do with being afraid of losing control and embarrassment and stuff
i mean

i got over it somehow
and i dont know exactly how
i think at this point in my life
not much can embarrass me so
i just like
realize incase of emergency i would do anything i had to do to use the bathroom
even if it meant finding a bush outside or something
haha i duno
somehow i"m not really afraid as much anymore

Yeah, toilet phobia...i was thinking about being scared about the restroom in general. I don't know, i still kinda have this problem, it has been since i was a little kid..just being a little anxious about using public restrooms. I just don't feel comfortable in there, i don't know why. I'd rather just hold it in or wait till i get back home. I especially hate the ones where you go in by yourself (worst is if it's just the one restroom person kind, and not as worse if it's multiple w/no people inside). I hate the creepy looking bathrooms - industrial kinds w/heavy and loud fans, etc. I prefer the more comfortable ones like dim lighting and lol, the ones that have a nice pix hanging on the wall - makes going a little easier  :laugh3:.

So weird, i attribute these weird feelings to when i was little and having a hard time going potty training. This is a super embarrassing story  :(, well, i guess not so embarrassing b/c i'm grown up now, lol!!, but, when i was little in elementary school (in the lower grades like 1-3), when i needed to go to the bathroom, i would squat and go behind a door...hoping nobody would see me....lol, i don't know how many times i've done this and managed to have nobody ever see me...weird huh. So, i don't know if my distaste for the restroom is caused by my slower initiative to be comfortable using the loo when i was younger.

Well, it doesn't affect me too too much day to day. But, it's just if i had a choice weather or not to go, i wouldn't unless it's in a comfortable situation of which i had described above.

Thanks for hearing my blurb....lol, never ever told anyone this before.

There's a guy I work with who is the most calm, layed back, friendly, happy go lucky person I know. He's the last person that I think would ever have an type of phobias or anxiety. Is one flaw is....he can't go number two in public! If he's at work and has to go, he'll go home to do it. He just feels the bathroom toliet is 'dirty' and get overcome it.

Me, with my GAD, I've NEVER had an issue with using public bathrooms. I've even used portajohns and they are discusting!

That's interesting huh? I know somebody who's like that too, i wonder if it's the same person? Haha. Perhaps there are just not uncommonly many people who don't like to take a number 2 in public...  :laugh3:.

Well, i guess i don't exactly have an extreme toilet phobia where i'm going to run home and go do it..it's just something i wish i was a little more comfortable with so i don't have to waste so much energy being not at ease.
