Bone between breasts?? Please read and calm my nerves!!!!!!
« on: February 06, 2010, 08:24:19 PM »
I've had a "lump" on the bone between my breasts now for years that the doctor assures me is nothing, and I'm not too worried about it because it's been there for probably 7-8 years now and has never changed in size and, in fact, I think I remember it stemming from a bug bite or something.  But above that now I've noticed there's kind of a longer slender raised area.  My question is, is this normal??  It's under my bra area to maybe a little above that.  Maybe it's always been like that and I've never noticed it, but of course now I keep messing with it and it's getting tender and that part of my chest even feels tighter, so I'm starting to stress that it's something more.  I have been losing weight, so maybe it's even just starting to stick out more than normal, I don't know, or like I said, maybe it's always been like that.  So my question, do you think this is normal or should I be concerned??  Please help calm my fears.  I do go to the chiropractor on Monday and I may ask her, since it's between the ribs it's something she may be familiar with.  PLEASE HELP ME!!  I HATE THIS HA!!!!

I had this exact issue two years ago. I noticed a raised area near the lower right side of my sternum along the edge of my ribs and freaked out about it. I poked and prodded it until it got very sore. I went to my doctor and he had no idea what it was so he ordered a bone scan. Long story short - it was nothing. The radiologist told me that that area is made mostly of cartlidge and may not be exactly symetrical on both sides. If you are very concerned, see your doctor to ease your mind.

Well, if it has been there for that long, and the doctor isn't concerned, it seems like you should relax about it. If you have been poking and touching it, it might change a bit in shape. It's on the bone in between the breast area? I mean, that isn't even an area that makes it into the mammogram machine...so it likely isn't an area of concern. It isn't a tumor or cancer. If the doctor had even the slightest concern, he would have had it tested.

Yeah, it's not the "lump" that's been there for a long time that has been scared, it's just the area above it.  I just need to stop messing with it.  Yes, it is the bone or whatever that is between the rib cage.  I do have fibrocystic breasts, so I am hoping maybe that part is just fibrocystic as well.

I have had the same "bump" spot area for as long as I can remember.  I never gave it a thought.
