Anyone have attacks at doctors office?
« on: February 06, 2010, 11:02:43 AM »
Hello,

I'm a 25 year old male, currently engaged... I've been having Panic Attacks since I was 17. I've never really been on any medications, I went to the E.R a couple of times and the doctors prescribed me "BuSpar" once which gave me some wicked nightmares.. and the second time the doctor gave me a months worth of Paxil CR which I didn't really get to see if it worked cause, well it was only a months worth.. though I did seem to feel a little better.

Anyways, I'm finally at a point where I need some help, any kind of help. I'm at a point where I feel like if I don't get some help I'm gonna absolutely lose my mind. So I scheduled a doctors appointment through Comprehensive Care.. it's a place for people who don't have much income. I basically have no income, I can't get a job because I can't leave the house. I'm currently filing for Social Security Disability... At any rate, the doctors appointment I have I'm not really sure what to expect. Is it gonna be a Psychologist? or a Psychiatrist? Is he able to prescribe me medication? Will I have to go back on a weekly/monthly basis? And the biggest question in my mind is... What if I have a really really bad panic attack in the office? Do they have procedures they follow in the case that that happens? I'm getting more and more anxious as the date closes in. Some advice, info etc would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

You should have stayed on this, it takes weeks to kick in and  it sounded like you were on your way to good success

<<<<Is it gonna be a Psychologist?>>>>>>>
Possibly first yes, he/she evalutes you, another name for Therapist, and will work with the Phychiatrist

<<<<<<<or a Psychiatrist?>>>>>>>>>>>>>
He or she is next and will perscribe the meds they feel you need

<<<<<Will I have to go back on a weekly/monthly basis?>>>>>>>>>
Often every week at first then slowly spread the appointments out

<<<<<And the biggest question in my mind is... What if I have a really really bad panic attack in the office? >>>>>>>
We have all had that, just relax it cant hurt you

I am glad you are going for help.  Feel free to come into our chat room and vent with us, until you get to your scheduled appointment

I    IT ALL GOES WELL!

I do. Mostly before them. But if I have to wait; I am very anxious. Staff say sit down and relax. Once I said "If I could do that I wouldn't be here!"

Good luck. Keep posting here. I just made a new thread. Dread Appts. before I saw you. It might help.

I draw disability because of severe panic disorder & severe agoraphobia. I had to see a psychiatrist to have my disability approved. Nothing to worry about. If you can't leave your home to work you will get disability. Yes I had severe panic attacks in doctors offices. Only one of my doctors. I've had panic disorder since 1998 & finally recoved in June of 2004. That's the last time I had a full blown panic attack. Improved a lot with agoraphobia also.
Still having severe anxiety.
I've had terrible experiences with this.
Feeling nervous all the time ::)
