To go to the doc or not - struggling with myself
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:55:29 AM »

Not going to go into detail now but I’ve had HA for a number of years on and off, and also in the last 6 months have had persistent headaches with sore eyes and am on meds for those which keeps them mostly at bay.

The past year or more I’ve also struggled with dizzy spells (had all the tests in the world, nothing shows up) and now am having them badly again for the past 3 days, where literally every couple seconds I feel like I’m gonna pass out. Blood pressure and blood sugar etc all fine, no ear or sinus problems.

Apart from this I have had some pain in my back on a specific spot on my spine and from that spot the rest of my lower back feels stiff and uncomfortable. The place on the spine is very sore if I push on it and I think it may be (but also may not be) the place where I had a lumbar puncture in Oct last year.

This back pain thing is worrying me cos it’s not that sore but it’s constant – if I rub something like arnica or deep heat on it feels better for 30 minutes then comes back.

My dilemma is: being an HA person I of course think I have some sort of bone cancer. But I have spent so much money on medical bills over the past 5 years and I really don’t want to give in to my fear and go off to the doc. Also he sees me coming and I know he thinks oh here is that Hypochondriach again and I feel that maybe he doesn’t take me seriously (why would he? They can never find anything wrong!) but the back thing plus the dizzy spells are making me miserable. And what if it is something serious? My partner left for Angola today for work for 4 weeks and I have these fears that I will have some fast growing cancer that kills me before he comes back.

Wow. I've been struggling with the eye soreness (ususally behind my eyes), mild headaches and the dizzy spells too lately. I just saw my doctor about a week ago and he had me get sinus x-ray. I haven't heard the results yet. I'm really thinking about getting an eye exam too. It's almost like the muscles around my eye are feel sore and when I turn a certain way or look at something really fast I get the dizzy spells. Also, for some reason this mostly happens at work. What drugs are you taking for this?

if youve had all the tests i would say it was anxiety induced, hard to believe i know but true. For the back if you havent had that checked i would, any new symptoms which last more then a couple of week i would get seen too, dont be afraid to ask docters questions if your worried :) i wouldnt think it was anything sereios though sounds all muscle related.

thanks for the replies...

andy i'm on very low dose Trepiline (used for depression in bigger doses and chronic headaches in smaller amounts) - they think it might be something i contracted in Czech, a form of encephalitis, tho if it is that it's a very mild form. and they don't know.

emma thanks for your comment too, i think i'll make a doc appointment for early next week and if it's gone by then can always cancel. your answer was reassuring tho, thank you :-)
