does anyone else ever experience this?
« on: January 07, 2006, 05:14:58 PM »
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone thinks like this........I am a hypochondriac (surprise surprise!), some days, very rarely, do i go without obsessing about something to do with my health, but the second something comes into my head i cant get rid of it at all.  i recently had a baby, 8 weeks ago, and suffered from high blood pressure during the pregnancy.  the doctor thinks that i may suffer from it anyway, not just pregnancy induced.  still have to have follow up with doc about it, but since he said that, i have been getting pains and am obsessed with the thought that i am having a heart attack or that there is something wrong with my heart.  somedays other thoughts (for example i have a health worry about my partner or child) take over and the pains more or less go away, i think its because i am not obsessing about them,  does anyone else think that these kind of things are phantom pains?????  am SO GLAD I FOUND THIS WEBSITE!

take care

I recently went for almost 15 years panic-free (except for a slight relapse 5 years ago when I briefly obsessed about a lump in my thigh...which has been there for about 7 years...Dr. said it was a cyst)

Then, this past summer, I began obsessing about a sore throat wish I was certain was cancer...turned out to be irritation from post-nasal drip. Then the very next month, I was diagnosed with an enlarged Ovary...turned out to be a cyst...or so they said. I am certain I also have Breast Cancer and a tumor in my back.

It comes and goes for me...I think 6 months is long enough....it's time for "it" to go!!!

I have exactly the same experiences, after I gave birth to my last child I was convinced I had all the symptoms of an imminent heart attack such as pains in the left arm etc, but if I started worrying about the other children or my husband the pains would disappear also my anxieties about my children are not just health worries I worry terribly that something really bad will happen to them such as accidents and abductions etc, I play out the whole scenario in my mind even though I know I am overreacting and acting like a neurotic mother.  I have identified that during periods of intense stress my anxiety can become horrific taking over all aspects of my life making me feel almost suicidal just a way out from the control it has over me.  I am thinking of giving counselling a try anything has to be better than self help.  I am really glad I found this website aswell I didnt know anyone else felt as bad as me.  But I am determined to beat this and maybe go on to help others.......... thats my ambition!!
