Could upping dose of Lex make things better?
« on: January 13, 2010, 06:12:03 PM »
I'm on 2.5 mg right now (i know, tiny dose!), and i can't stand the insomnia and insane fatigue i have. If it's going to be like this for a month i can't do it. But, would upping it to 5 mg (which i'd do in a couple of days) possibly make things calm down a bit? Always thought upping the dose would make it worse (initially), but--maybe not?  :dazed:

I don't know.

When I began Lexapro at 5 mg, I was really tired and had some dizziness.  I found myself sleeping everywhere.  This lasted for no more than 3 days.  When my dose was upped to 10 mg, I may have had some small return of side effects, but nothing as bad as when I first started.  I take 20 mg/day now.

The high intensity of side effects generally doesn't last longer than 5-7 days.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, i'm not sure why i'm reacting so strongly to 2.5 mg. I have terrible sleep/fatigue issues already, so it could just be exacerbating them.

i thought of upping it to 5 mg tonight and seeing how that feels, but i can't imagine it would feel much better if 2.5 doesn't feel good..

*sigh*..wish i knew if it were going to work. That would make it easier to continue through the hellish initial SE's!

Lexapro is a strange drug in the effects.  I have gone on and off it at least 5 times now.  I have tapered on, tapered off, started at the max dose, and quit cold turkey.  When I first started taking Lexapro (6 years ago), I couldn't sleep when I was on it.  I mean, endless sleepless nights.  Now, I sleep fine when taking lexapro.  I also used to have issues with being unable to orgasm when on Lexapro and i had nightmares when I did sleep.  Now I don't have those issues.  However, the first few times I went on and off it, I was able to come off easily.  Now, coming off it is hell.  H.E.L.L.  I don't know why it has affected me differently each time I have taken it and stopped it...but it has/does.  However, when I take it, I feel GOOD (mentally).  That, alone, is worth the rest.
