Take some deep breaths. I kmnow how scary the waiting can be during a family members surgery. Buy just tell yourself that you're panicking prematurely. I use this sometimes- I say: If something goes wrong I get to panic all I want, but right now there is nothing to panic over. Then I do lots of deep slow beathing, sometimes in child's pose.

I hope that helps and I'll pray the surgery goes well.

Kate it is scary when you have a loved one in surgery.

My sister, last year, had to have a benign brain tumor removed.  We were told that it was most likely benign but we couldn't know for 100% until pathology ran the tests.  We were also told this type tumor was very vascular and she had to have, what basically amounted to an ablation done, before the surgery to cut off the blood supply before the surgery.  We also knew that it was the size of a tennis ball.  The doctor told us how the usual surgery goes etc but since it was so big.....  Doctor said that she shouldn't have any issues later on but depending on how much blood loss and .... Then we had to do all the after surgery tests to see if she had andy deficits.  Add to this that my father had a malignant brain tumor and died at age 46  :( .  So I gotcha, it is scary.  I'll tell you what I did to get through.  I took each procedure separately.  And I looked at the ones coming up would be done successfully.  I couldn't panic.  I couldn't think the worst case.  It was my younger sister and it all had to be okay.

Now about 16 months later she is doing well.  All of the big bad scaries that could of happened didn't.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
