Lady problems and pap concerns...guys might want to avoid!
« on: December 17, 2009, 11:54:38 AM »
So, it's been awhile since I've been here, and now I have a whole new concern to add to my long list of past HA issues...

Yesterday, I went for my annual pap smear.  Except it's been almost 2 years since the last, actually.  The nurse practitioner did the test, and when she finished she said, "everything looks fine, but you do have a nabothian cyst on your cervix.  They're totally benign, they don't turn into anything, and we don't have to do anything about it, it's just FYI."

I am 27, have no kids, have had no major issues in terms of reproductive stuff aside from pretty bad cramps, which I've had since I was 10.  Last night I went from being mildly curious about the cyst, to being somewhat worried because some websites say it is much less common for women without children to have these cysts, to convincing myself that, because I waited almost 2 years for a smear, it's possible that I have one of the really rare, super-fast growing kinds of cervical cancer.  It doesn't help that this is another one of those "bad diseases with no symptoms" kind of things.  I'm totally a mess right now, and I have to wait a week for the pap results.

I can sit here and know somewhere in my head that it is super-unlikely, and that the one issue the doctor could see is in no way related to cancer, but...you know.  These things happen with HA!  Just looking for some reassurance, I guess.  Has anyone else had these cysts in the past?

Thanks to everyone in advance.  I love the support available to everyone here.

Much less common in women without children does not mean it never happens in women without children :)

I have had a series of abnormal paps for the last 11 years b/c my ex husabnd exposed me to HPV. A cyst, is just that, a cyst. They would certainly have been able to tell if it was cancerous, trust me! Even when my cells come back as "odd" they are not that all concerned and tell me to come back in 3-4 months. It is was something abnormal, they woould have set you up to take it out and biopsy it immediately. You are fine.

it was probably there the last time you had a pap, they just didnt say anything because its nothing. it would be like them saying you have a small blister on your foot.

I had the exact same thing (a nabothian cyst) on my cervix -- before I ever had kids.  I discovered it myself when I was checking my cervix (I was trying to conceive and checking for cervical position).  My OB confirmed that it was absolutely no big deal.  At all!
