Fasting/Echo and Halter Monitor test question
« on: November 23, 2009, 11:05:22 PM »
First, I have to go for a fasting blood sugar and Cholesterol blood test Wed morning. I know I am suppposed to fast for 12 hours prior, so nothing after 8 pm. Does this include water? Am I allowed to drink any water? And can I take my blood pressure pill before I go, or wait until after test?

And does anyone know if I go for my Echo test on Friday, and I am picking up my halter that day, and return it on Saturday, that results will be back for my Dr on Monday? I have an appt with her on Monday.

And last, please pray everything comes back normal.

Thank you ;D

Yep, water is okay. I just started fasting for my blood work tomorrow and yearly physical. I'm taking my meds as scheduled, so I'm sure that's okay for you. I don't know about the halter results. I had one done years ago when I was pregnant and seem to remember the results being pretty quick.

In my own experience, water is ok for the fasting glucose test but I would contact your doctor or the clinic doing the testing to be 100%, especially about your blood pressure pill. As for the doctor results, it depends if your doctor works on the weekend, if she'll be going over the test results just prior to your appointment or in front of you, etc.

I would call the doctor about the meds before the test.  Sometimes, with my daughter, it is okay and sometimes it isn't.  You could even call the lab where it is being drawn.  If you can't take the med before, just bring it with you.

I don't eat anything after dinner (around 6pm) when I have fasting bloodwork the next day.  Water is fine as long as you don't overdo---drink tons and tons.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
