Mind/Body Connection
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:33:09 AM »
My current thinking has me in a loop about breast cancer. It started with a long time upper back ache that seemed to radiate into my chest. Over the past few days, I started getting aches in the actual breast. I started feeling around and found a roundish, softish lump. Since then, I've been getting more aches and even burning. When I feel the area, it isn't even hot but it feels like it's burning inside and I get these slight twinges in the whole area. I keep on checking to see if the lump is still there or if it's disappeared.

My questions.....can just THINKING about it cause the aches, pains and burning? The pain never keeps me awake at night and seems to start up while I'm laying in bed in the morning. Secondly, can anyone share what kinds of meds you are taking for HA? I'm scared to start on meds again. I had a terrible experience with Effexor XR about 2 years ago.

My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer so of course I started worrying about it--my breasts are very lumpy anyways so I don't get any comfort from breast exams-anyways I started getting shooting pains in my breast as soon as she was diagnosed--so my answer would be yes!

Yes your mind controls your body.  I have all kinds of physical symptoms by basically thinking them up.  Last year with me and my old nemesis, MS, I got my eyes doing a major symptom of the disease by saying,  "Well atleast I don't have X going on"  With in 24hrs it was happening.

I do get burning, tingling, pains, itching in my breasts.  Most of the time it happens in my left one.

I'm going to dig up Pan's TMS post for you to have a gander at.

*EDIT* and here it is  ;D

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I had not heard of TMS or Dr. Sarno before. Something more for me to read up on. Much appreciated.
