New to the forum
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:27:17 PM »
Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but not new to anxiety.  I've been trying to manage this dis-ease since childhood.  I get physical symptoms from extreme blushing in social situations (on & off throughout life) to severe stomach aches.  I also have generalized anxiety and become anxious for no apparent reason.  I have learned to stay away from google during these times because the hypochondriac within wants to come out and play.  I think this is my way of directing the generalized anxiety so that I have something specific to worry about.
As a child I missed a great deal of school due to vomiting and other flu like symptoms.  I was diagnosed with anxiety, but my parents never got me treatment other than pepto bismol.  In fact, as an adult I was considered weak by a parent if I attempted to seek help and go on medication.

Today I try to manage my anxiety, but am failing miserably.  So here I am seeking support and laughter.  You must admit that this anxiety stuff can be pretty comical at times.  I mean really, who in their right mind googles things to worry about.  lol

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Hello JustBe!

Welcome!

I found your comment, "I this is my way to direct my generalized anxiety so that I have something specific to worry about" enlightening.

I've had anxiety for as long as I can remember (and I'm now 40-ish).  I've been diagnosed with GAD, panic, and depression since I started seeing a counselor.  I have found that coming here is very comforting, and that meds can be a big help.

I look forward to seeing you around the boards!

ME TOO!  There have been times when I've been in bed and I think, "wow, I'm kind of clear-headed.  I must have something to worry about!"  I then rack my brain until I come up with a specific worry.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks so much for reaching out.  It is certainly nice to know that I'm not alone and others "get it".  :action-smiley-065:
Again, thank you.
