Paxil making me anxious
« on: October 08, 2009, 08:27:05 PM »
I increased from 10 mg to 20 mg of Paxil this week and I've been feeling "weird". It is making nervous. Has Paxil made anyone else here anxious? I'm taking the Paxil to treat anxiety, not to increase it? Will this pass?

I'm wondering the same thing with Celexa actually...then I remembered about zoloft. It was causing a lot of agitation, at the withdrawal and maybe at the start (probably) but I can't remember. But I think it's the same thing with Celexa, and probably with Paxil (they are all SSRIs). I can describe it like that: you feel like if you drank 15 coffees, + your usual anxiety hell. It doesn't seem to help, if we see it like that. But I doubt it will last for long. Zoloft has just been like this at the end, with the withdrawal (and withdrawal is a bit like to live the start of the med again). And I've been years on zoloft, and never felt like that. So I think this effect will vanish, both for you and me. I still need 2 days to say "I'm on it for one week". And at this time, a lot of side effects disappear.

I hope so. It is a weird feeling. I feel anxious but the medicine keeps me from having a full blown panic attack. It's like on a scale of 1-10 my anxiety is hovering about a 6.

Breathless,

Yes!  I take 30mg of Paxil and when I increased from 20 to 30mg, my anxiety was worse for about a week.  It did subside and mentally I fell much better now (I'm on week 4 of 30mg).  However a side-effect I'm experiencing is an inner trembling or shakiness which makes me feel like I can't sit still.  My dr said that this is a somewhat common side -effect and prescribed me clonazepam to take as needed.  She said if it doesn't go away in a couple weeks I can drop back down to 20mg.  But yes, feeling more anxious at first is sometimes common.
