Hyper-aware
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:17:38 AM »
Is there such a thing as "hyper-aware"? it seems like whenever I am stressing about my two swollen glands that I've had for almost a year now, it seems like my mind focuses on every feeling in my neck. i don't know if I am explaining this correctly, but like this morning, when I was putting my makeup on, I ran my hands with my foundation down towards my neck, and ran my fingers over the lymphnodes.and it was like it awakened the nerve cells in that area, and now all morning its like I can sort of feel them even though my hands might not be touching them, and it's freaking me out. I know they are not getting bigger as the day is going on, but it's like they my mind is constantly aware they are there.

Am I making any sense??

I believe there is such thing as being hyper-aware.  I was just thinking about this last night, actually.

A lot of times I'll go into a panic because I think my face is starting to go numb or something, then I realize it's just a piece of hair touching my face...  I think most people wouldn't even notice that.

I've been worried about DVT and have been noticing every little sensation in or on the leg about which I'm worried.

being hyper-aware is what keeps hypos going.

you are checking and rechecking even if it is in subtle ways.  We all touch our bodies but we tend to have our ears pricked and eagle eyes scanning so we notice every little benign thing and blow it up into big, bad scaries.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
