Can I take klonopin for my anxiety and then Valium for surgery?
« on: October 06, 2009, 09:04:31 AM »
I have klonopin for anxiety but just been taking it in rarer situations for the past 6 months.
I have a surgery coming up where they administer valium and that seems to be what helps the patients relax and I feel like I'd want to take that.
Do you suppose I can take my klonopin (I think it's just .25mg?? Half a pill.) per dose and then at my appointment take the Valium?
When I asked the woman there she said she didn't know and I'd have to talk to my dr. I probably won't hear back from my dr until tomorrow though and I am SO curious now!
Is it ok for them to mix a bit? I want the Valium because it's what everyone takes for the surgery. I'd just need klonopin the night before and possibly most of that week before and that very morning...

I think it's OK to mix them, but I'd bet your doctor tells you not to take the Klonopin for an alotted amount of time prior to the surgery.

The best person to talk to about this is the doctor.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Haven't heard back yet!!
Is it possible my regular doctor could prescribe me Valium so there is no mixing and only a tweak in the amount? Like higher dose at the time of surgery?
Could I ask them to do that when they call
me back or is that crazy?
