Don't know what to do......
« on: October 03, 2009, 06:14:50 PM »
Hello,I made some change in my life {I don't drink alcohol no more,I stopped smoking}but I still feel bad! I have DP or something bad,I feel like i'm in a dream all the time.  I can't enjoy anything anymore,I feel VERY VERY tierd all the time,my mind feels F****d up, I can't go on like this forever! I can't take meds,I don't have money for help!  PLEASE some one is there a book or tape or something that helps?  I need a book that talks ALOT about anxiety and DP and ways to help your self get better.   I wish this would end,I never cry but today I just can't stop.........

Hawk,

Sorry you are feeling so bad.  BruiserBear has posted some Claire Weekes audios on here before that are very hlepful to listen too.  Unfortunately I am not tech saavy enough to find them and post them here for you.  So maybe you can find them on here somehow.  Another suggestion I have is to go on amazon.com and type in "anxiety" or "panic disorder" to find books you might like. I like to read other people's comments on the books to see if they're any good.  Then you can always see if your local public library has the book if you don't want to buy it.  Two books I like are the "Anxiety and Phobia Workbook"  and  "The Anxiety Cure: ann 8 step guide to geting well".  There are SO many books out there, so just getting something to start at the library might be your best bet.  Hope you are doing better soon!

Hi Hawk,

I have a copy of Sam Obitz "Been There- Done That- Do This!" that I would be glad to send you.  (if you're comfortable shooting me your address in a message.)  It explains TEA forms which are used to combat anxiety.  The author has lived anxiety and panic, so he knows what he is talking about.  It is also a very quick read- you can get through the whole book in about and hour and a half.

Let me know.  Feel better!

...just another quick point in relation to hobbies.

In the UK (and maybe elsewhere) various mental health agencies carried out studies regarding what sort of hobbies and past times helped to alleviate anxiety.  Whilst exercise was an obvious popular one a hobby that time and time again showed HUGE benefits with anxiety and health anxiety in particular was gardening.  I think it is thought that the reason for this is that gardening totally shifts our perspective from ourselves to another thing for us to care for.

...shame I can't stand it,lol.  But you get the point....shifting focus is a huge factor in recovery.

edit:  I think Six found that gardening was a huge benefit for her so she may be able to comment on this.

Hello,I made some change in my life {I don't drink alcohol no more,I stopped smoking}but I still feel bad!

Lol.. you did the same things I did when I got anxiety.

I later found out that these things the whole time were used as crutches to help us cope with our anxiety.

If you are light headed, dizzy, spacy and at 'high alert' mode right now, you probably have agoraphobia. Try going in a crowded mall for hour and it might develop. When you strat feeling dizzy then leave! That will be agoraphobia.

If you are at this stage, then it's time to see a Dr. and get some medication.

Basically your constant 'worrying' is causing your anxiety. What you are worrying about is the anxiety symtoms themself so it's feeding off itself. Your subconcious mind controls this, NOT your active mind. If you get agoraphobia you'll know the power of the subconsions minds control over your body.

If you have a panic attack in a Pizza Hut, your subconsious mind will not like the Pizza Hut. Wait a week later. Have a freind load the Pizza hut website and you watch yourself have a mild panic attack despite you being in your own home.

That's the power of the subconsious controlling your anxiety and panic attacks.

Many people on the forums don't get agoraphobia and their anxiety doesn't intefere that much with their life. Maybe they don't need meds.

But when you are 'up there', you need to relax, stop worrying, and let your subconsious mind settle back down. This will take a long while and will involve SSRI's. Citalopram is what I recommend as it's cured my anxiety agoraphobia. I take 5mg before bed.

Speaking of that, it's bed time now. Time to take my 5mg and go to sleep :)

Tommorows going to be a great day.

Hey Hawk

I've been thinking of you lately as I had not seen any of your posts.

I'm sorry you are feeling so badly.  So you've come off all your meds completely now?  I don't recall what you were taking.

Other folks have given you some good info and offers on books.   I hope you take them up on those offers.

Regarding not taking meds---well as you know I think meds are a good tool. They certainly aren't the cure but helpful in many cases.  I understand why you don't want to be on benzoes, but maybe an SSRI would be helpful at least in the short term.  They can help quiet the thoughts enough to get yourself back on the logical thinking road.

{{{HUGS}}}} to you from across the miles.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Arijones1..I noticed that you mentioned the Panic Away program. I was looking at it online and it seemed interesting? Did you find it helpful? How could you get it to me if I was interested? Thanks.

the panic away shows you what anxiety is, IE fight flightt blah blah, and the main point is to embrace panic, and not run away,
