Tension headache causing tension!
« on: September 16, 2009, 03:26:52 AM »
I've been experiencing what I think is a tension headache for about 3 days now, gradually getting worse. It's mostly around the sides of the head and feels like squeezing and also like its inflamed. That plus my eyes feel very fatigued. I have been under a lot of stress so rationally I would put it down to that. What is worrying me is silly but there is a part of me that fears it will never go away. I did have a headache everyday for over a year when I had clinical depression so I guess that's where this fear is coming from.

I desperately want it to stop but it seems like this desperation might be making it worse.

Has anyone else experienced this horrible tension headache cycle and does anyone have any suggestions for stopping it?

I would try massage, visit a chiropractor, Omega 3 fatty acids, Tylenol, and the list
goes on. If it persists, I would call your physician.

my son was horseplaying with friend back in Feb.  He twisted his neck.  Well what could have been a short lived soreness turned into very tight muscles that he refused to stretch out.  After two weeks he developed a severe headache around the temples--sight, sound bothered him.  We saw the doc two days in a row. He was on 3 advil every 6hrs.  It didn't knock it out.  I took him to the family neuro (ain't it sad we have one of those ::) )  Well it was a tension headache due the tight muscles in his neck.  The headache lasted a week.

I have also had headaches that lasted 2 days or so--usually they are the dull kind.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Yeah ive had a very bad headache that does all sorts of wierd tension related things for about the last 5 months or so...I am seeing a chiro ASAP

I had all the brain tumor/stroke/anyresum worries and I got a CT scan and Neck CT scan and everything was ok...Tension headaches can suck, so make sure you keep good posture and stretch those chest/shoulder/and neck muscles everyday

Thank you for your replies.

I haven't been getting enough sleep or perhaps my sleep isn't restful so I'm sure that isn't helping. Nor is the worry about it.

If I could just somehow stop the worry then I would put my money on it leaving.
