Sick again... starting to question my negative HIV test
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:06:34 PM »
So, I'm sick again... It started out as a sore throat last week... Got antibiotics which seemed to work but now i just feel like overall crap with all my glands swollen up..

This is the 5th time in one year i've been sick and I used to NEVER get sick... I'm starting to question my negative HIV test :((

is it ridiculous to question these tests? I've been reading around and they said they are correct about 99.5% of the time. SOMEONE SLAP ME BACK TO SANITY!!

Thanks :D

*SLAP* lol does that help? All kidding aside, with HIV tests, it is always best to wait 6 months after your sexual encounter. If your getting sick, it could be from your anxiety. I know that with stress and anxiety, your immune system can go down the tubes. Also, while taking antibiotics, your more prone for colds because your immune system is working hard with the antibiotics. This is something to be careful with if you are taking meds. Its always best to stay in if you can and take it easy. I also feel like total crap while taking antibiotics.

Correct... the 6 months after your last risk of infection is the correct time. Most testing will detect any viral load as soon as 3 months.

I have had those years where it seems like I am sick all the time.  Then I have years where I don't even get a runny nose.  Sometimes when your body is stressed or tired or just because of bad luck, you can keep getting knocked down with these viruses so it becomes a never-ending run of illnesses for a little while.   Bad timing for you, given your worries, but it is just a coincidence.

9 months and a negative test means no HIV.  Not even a slim chance.  Zero.  These assays are extremely sensitive now, so there is no possible way at all, especially after 9 months.  Let it go.

Being sick doesn't mean you have HIV. Its only because of your stress and antibiotics your taking. When I moved to TX to be with family for a while, I was sick for almost 3 months total. This was due to climate change and to stress. I had to take two different antibiotics to try and kick the icky bug. This was an awful time for me but I got better, you will too :)

BTW: everyone is right, 9 months is more than enough time. You do not have HIV  :happy0151:

I agree wholeheartedly with MJF. Sometimes we just have years where we get sick a lot, due to tons of factors: lowered immunoresponse because of stress, particularly virulent bugs, the weather, etc.

i would love to enjoy life except im sick all the time now :((

And, whether for better or for worse, you will continue to be sick unless you start enjoying life. Getting out and moving around and having fun will not only make you healthier, being happy and relaxed will make your body more efficient and able to fight off viruses and all that. Don't let a few simple colds or flus get you down.
