Only recently I was telling someone here, "Don't get upset if the doctor calls to talk to you.  They simply can't leave information on an answering service and have to speak personally even when it's good news."

So everyone knows I went to the doctor Thursday and got my mystery solved.  It was also my first full physical in about 3 years.

So today the phone rings and the doctor's receptionist says, "Dr. ____ would like to speak with you.  Do you have a few minutes to speak on the phone to him?"  Then she put me on hold for what seemed like ten minutes.

Naturally my heart was pounding and all I could think was that I had a bad pap test.  I could think of no other reason he'd call 1/2 a week later.  The wait seemed to be FOREVER!  I thought my good luck had run out.  I kicked myself for not visiting the doctor in three years.

When he finally got on the phone, all he said was the same thing he told me last week.  And I was so flustered I even thought he said, "it should disintegrate because it is not benign." (he was referring to a cyst on an ovary.)  I said, "WHAT?"  (give me some credit, he is not a native English speaker and he spoke quickly) and he clarified, "It is benign, it is not harmful."

I very politely asked if this was all he was calling about and he said yes.  I told him I was afraid he was calling for some bad reason like a bad pap result and he said no, that was fine.  Apparently last week he was just giving me an educated guess (although I thought it was fact) and over the weekend there was further review of the ultrasound, like maybe a radiologist M.D. looked at it to confirm the diagnosis. That's why he called me - to be thorough and let me know that the final diagnosis was exactly what he told me last Thursday.

PHEW  !!!!!  They don't know how nervous they make people when they say, "The doctor needs to speak with you."   :goofy:

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I know that would drive me insane. I would get so flustered till he called then totally freak out when he did. It has happened to me a few times and I know its not fun. Mind plays tricks on us

My all time favorite is when they call and leave you a message at 4:30 pm on a Friday...and you dont' get home till 6.  :(

I am glad he was just confirming the results.  Sounds like a good dr.  :)
