Accepting your weirdness
« on: August 14, 2009, 02:15:23 PM »
:-* Hi anxious party people.   :angry-smiley-034:

Hey I had a thought not too long ago. It seems that a lot of problems with people nowadays is that they can't accept their humanity. Obviously trying to be something your not can cause a lot of stress, and therefor lead to a lot of anxiety. Me and all my friends are awkward, and anxious people, but we're all weird and we know it. We all have a great respect for each other, and are able to communicate very openly. I hear so many people, just simply walking down the street, using voices that aren't theirs. I have a house full of frat boys next-door to me and they are the epitome of self denial. Rampant homophobia and non-stop partying rule their lives, and it all seems to be for no real reason other than that's how they think they should act. It may sound a little bitter, but i think that there are a lot of people in the world who are totally screwed up, but don't want to accept it. Then that would mean accepting their mortality, their insecurities, flaws, vices, etc. Let's face it, we live in a society that is ruled by the ethos of the rugged individual, yet somehow this alienates us from each other much more than we would think it does.

Anyway, that's my stupid idea. See ya

Ok.
This is the sound of me accepting my weirdness:

(Felt like a bath in chocolate. Whooo!)

I give this hypothesis my unbridled support.

This is a lovely idea.  You said in one paragraph what I've been trying to say in an overly-worded blog for months.  There's so much needless resistance, in all forms, to the facts of life.  Everything from our flaws to our mortality can be a source of liberation, if we would just devote a little time to accepting it all.

If you've already come this far intellectually, you might want to check out some books on Buddhism, because it talks a lot about people who wear masks. Just a suggestion :)
