Getting Help
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:15:05 AM »
Hey everyone. I just joined this site a week ago and I'm thankful for all the information ive received. I have a question. How do i go about getting help for SAD? None of my friends or family know that i have it. I would feel really awkward telling them because i dont know what they would think. What kind of help is available? I really need to overcome this. What have you all tried and does it work? Thank you.

Hey Ecnal,

While the thought of telling your families and friends about your condition sounds dreadful, I feel that it is necessary for you to find comfort within your own home and your close friends.  If you can't trust your family, whom can you trust? Don't be scared of what they will think because you are family and they will understand.  Maybe confused at first, but at the end they will see things your way.

I have been suffering SAD for about 4 years now.   I have made a post about how I beat anxiety, not 100% gone but it is deteriorating.  I still have some paranoia left in me but it's not as bad as before.  I can go out in public now and not worry about SAD.   Here is the link http://www.anxietyzone.com/index.php/topic,1555.0.html

I was on Celexa for about 5 months and felt horrible.  I hated antidepressant due to its high-risk side effects but they can sometimes work for other people.  That being said, it does not mean that they do not work at all.   For me however it made things worst, so I tried conditioning myself rather than taking Celexa.   The fight against anxiety is a long hard road but never give up.   Keep believing and praying and you will get through this.

I agree with o-ren 100%. You should definately talk to your parents about this. Do NOT be ashamed of it. Trust me you will regret keeping this to yourself. It will eat at you little by little. You have to attack the problem at hand head on. Talk to your parents and set yourself up with a therapist. Thats the best thing you can do for yourself. Good Luck, I'll keep you in my prayers. :happy0151:

I wish you the best of luck! Just remember that SAD doesn't mean you are "crazy".. never let anyone tell you that you are either! I was afraid to tell people about my panic & agoraphobia, but now I can't stop talking about it and I think that's helped me a lot! Take care.
