Lexapro isn't so bad!
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:25:58 AM »
I've been on Lexapro 10mg per day for about two weeks now..and it's not so bad after all! for me atleast. The side effects of starting it only lasted a week. So far I feel pretty much no different, maybe a bit happier I guess, but anxiety is the same. But I'm aware that it may take a few more weeks to work fully as well. The best part is my libido is as good as ever and I have verey little sexual side effects! Takes a little longer for an orgasm perhaps, but thats it! Unlike paxil, which I lost libido and the ability to orgasm in like 2 days of starting it, this is way better! Hopefully everything works out fine

That's great to hear!  I know that you were hesitant to take an SSRI.  I'm glad you have few side effects.  Hope you keep feeling better!

that's good :) ive only been on my meds for 2-3 weeks now, and i feel the same. im not sure if it's helping but i definately don't feel any worse. i think i was expecting too much too soon, so right now im just trying to wait it out and see what happens. have a doc appt at the end of the month.. may ask her to up the dos but im not sure.. all i know.. is my anx feels numbed... like it's harder for me to cry. unless i really need to cry however. ya, it's confusing lol

good luck to you!!

My experience on Lexapro was positive as well.  In a few months, I looked back on my life and realized I was a new man!  Hopefully your experience will be the same.  It's important to be patient, which runs counter to everything we anxious types are inclined to do!

I'm glad I read this. I have had the sample box sitting in my cabinet for three months and the things I have read concerning side affects have scared me. Thanks for sharing.

Don't look at the side affects lol! Such a bad idea. Just take a look at the simple items you use a lot of the time, like asprin etc.. those are bad enough haha! Plus, everyone reacts differently. I was nervous to start my meds too, but I'm fine. Just remember you're not alone.. just make sure to tell your doc about anything you are concerned about. I mean, once you start, it's not like you can't get off of them. They can take you down that road if needed :)

yeah I'm starting to get mad. Been on it for a month now and not feeling any better. In fact the last 4 or 5 days I've just felt like crap! Tired, and almost depressed feeling. But no side effects at all atleast! I just want the junk to help! My anxiety isn't getting better and I take Lexapro, Inderal, and an occasional ativan for it! not to mention all the vitamins and supplements such as valerian i bought. And valerian just smells horrid! I don't think it helps at all. Melatonin for sleep does seem to help though!!!

924guy I have never been on lexapro but I have been on luvox. Just another ssri. And about three weeks into it before I got better I felt like crap just like you are describing. I got very depressed. But when that went away and it did I felt a lot better. Anxiety gone. This seems to be the way ssri`s work. So this feeling like crap your talking about might mean this stuff is staring to work. Hope for you it does. Hang in there. Keep us updated.

I agree with andre. right before i got better I had a few of the hardest days in a while. I'm not sure how often this happens to people, but about 2 days before my life completely changed, I had the worst panic attack in a while and it really worried me. I was thinking that I was going to have to be put on something else, starting thinking maybe meds wouldn't work for me.

I would keep in close contact with your doctor right now. I know this can be a very scary time in your life and just the WAITING alone. Just wanting SO badly for it to start working.. just wake up one day and feel like you're 'normal' again. But remember: what is normal anyway. Like my doctor told me: don't expect too much from the meds, you're not going to be super-human all of a sudden and not feel the same as you did before at all. You'll still feel like yourself and have the emotions. I find the meds numb me to a point, making it much easier for me to handle situations that used to make me very anxious.

What's really been helping me is thinking positively and forcing myself to do things that I've feared for so long (Like social situations). It makes me so proud of myself to make it through something as simple as going out to eat with my boyfriends' family. Not too long ago, I would have a panic attack before doing this.

Show your body whose boss.. remember it's okay to continue to have the same initial reactions that you had before, but it's all in how chose to react afterwards.. That's the best advice I think I've ever been given by my therapist

Wish I could say the same, they put me on the exact same dosage almost a month ago and if anything I could swear it is so much worse than it was ever before.  I guess it doesn't work for everyone.  Was hoping a few more days and a few more days and I just keep feeling worse daily.
