Weird reaction to alcohol on SSRI's?

<< < (2/4) > >>

katoka:
This exact same thing happens to my brother. I'm not sure what SSRI he is on, but he will drink and drink and drink and not feel drunk but he will still act like a drug a**hole and black out, not remembering anything the next day.  So, if you are aware that this happens to you, just be careful.  Drink a glass of water between alcoholic drinks.

Being aware of this problem is probably the best thing for you... just don't overdue it.

I don't drink on them. It's actually something I miss. I wish I could have 2 or 3 cold ones at a get together. When I'm not on SSRI'S I don't because of my anxiety and when I AM on them I don't because of the meds. I know alcohol is not a positive thing but to me it's one more thing that this anxiety has taken from me. The ability to kick back and have a little fun...

Same thing has happened to me... the blackout, but still up and around. No drunk feeling, just there & then not. And super high anxiety the next day. I've toned it down a LOT with the drinking, I don't like being told what I did the night before, even if it wasn't embarrassing.

BusuB:
If you're blacking out STOP.  I work in the corrections field and have seen many a one timers (never been in trouble before and will never be in trouble again... likely) show up at my office door because they "blacked out".  It's not worth it.  Trust me.

NickyFBaby:
I had a very similar experience. I used to get super drunk while on SSRIs but not get sick or feel the need to calm down. After a couple nights of being told I did things that I regret I really toned down on the drinking. Also I can relate to the crazy amount of anxiety the next day. My anxiety would be so bad that I would stay in bed all day. This was yet another deterrent to drinking on SSRIs
