Floaters

Has anyone ever gotten a random black dot that floats in front of your eyes?? For a little over a month now I randomly get this single, black dot [kinda looks like a bug] that moves all around my head.. It doesn't matter where I am, if it's light or dark out it just comes whenever. I'm thinking I may have a torn retina or maybe just simply have a floater. But I'm bothered by this b/c usually ppl have white floaters, and not even just a single one, and I've never heard of them being black either.

Any thoughts?

Yep, welcome to the wonderful world of floaters! Once you stop obsessing about them, they go away ( in a way).

My first floaters--and they were black---showed up about 17yrs ago.  It was cause of concern.  I went to the opthamologist.  She told me that it is very common.  You know the gel that actually fills the eyeball--the vitreous?  Well over time it collects debris/junk etc.  Where from?  Well she didn't say.  Anyway sometimes it gets dislodged and starts floating around. After a while it will settle back down I think of it kind of like a snowglobe.  You shake it and all the snow floats around then it settles back to the ground.  It is a benign condition.  She did say that if you get just huge amounts of it floating around, that to check back with her.  I can say that I've seen 5-10 floaters in my eye/s at any one time over the years.  All seems just fine.

Sixpack is right, they aren't a cause for concern and are pretty common. I have them as well and my eye doctor said there wasn't any reason to be worried and that they are common. You can always get it checked out if you want the piece of mind. I actually can see it now as I type. I guess thinking about it made me see it.

I think almost everybody has them.... your brain filters them out normally.. but when you are stressed your CNS is overloaded and perhaps more keen on seeing them... then we tend to obsess about them once they are "spotted"

My mom is diabetic. She had the same issue. If it does not go away within a few days you might want to see the eye doc. She has a broken blood vessel in the back of her eye and they have to laser it to stop bleeding. Tilt your head back for a day and see if it gets better. if not go to the doc. cause it might only get worse.

Thanks guys. I haven't seen the black floater for prob about a week now. I went to an Ophthamologist and he found some type of stuff in the bottom of my right eye. He said they kinda looked like little cotton balls, so I have to go back to get it looked at again in a month. But good news is that there is no detatchment of my retinas.
