Has anyone seen my sleep?
« on: May 18, 2009, 09:07:22 AM »
I used to be an awesome sleeper, in fact I'd even have a nap on the weekends.  I have to admit though it seems that this extra sleep came from lethargy and figured that it was probably related to my mental health.

Anyway, just recently, I can only get to sleep by using apo-zopiclone (Imovane).  I've tried every night for at least two hours to fall asleep.  I get pretty close but still just can't make the jump to slumber land on my own.  I was pretty restless the first couple of weeks but in the last week I'm very relaxed in bed.  I just can't frickin' fall asleep.

I also wake up after the drug wears off and sometimes would wake up at 5:30 even when I know I'm pretty stoned by the pill.  I'm concerned about the long term effects of the sleeping pills.  I hate taking them and want so badly just to sleep on my own.

I don't understand what changed three weeks back to make this happen, certainly nothing dramatic or earth shattering.  It was just like a switch.

I've been on Effexor for six years and maybe the drug is just no longer effective?  I've switched to Celexa to see if that will work.  In fact Effexor never got rid of all my symptoms and I always wondered if I was on the right medication.

Just wanted to make an update.

For the first time in four weeks, I decided to not take a sleeping pill at all.  And as a result, it's the first time that I fell asleep right away!

I still woke up in the middle of the night which sucked but I didn't take a pill and wasn't as tired as I thought I'd be today.  I now wonder if relying on the sleeping pills was a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
