Hi everyone,
. .
I have been on an antidepressant for many years now, and just recently have asked to try Topamax for migraines.  Well it works wonders for migraines, I haven't had a one since I have been taking it but I feel really doped up, hence the moniker "Dopamax".  I felt really agitated today as well.  Has anyone taken this med before and felt this way?  I take 25 mg early in the evening and feel so sleepy during the day, and sleep lousy at night.  I don't know if I want to continue this or not!
I take 20 mg Prozac every day for clinical depression.  Any words of wisdom out there?

Thanks!

Thanks for any reply.  Since I am new here it's really nice to know that I am welcomed.
I see that 23 times this was looked at yet no one even said hello?
Thanks, I guess these boards aren't for me after all.
Disappointed and disheartened.

I did not reply because I don't know the answer and I have no experience with migraines.

This board has an Introduce Yourself section where all the official welcomes are given.  I find it difficult to figure out if someone is brand new, if they have been lurking for a while, or if they want one question answered and never return.  Introduce Yourself sorts this all out.

Anyway,  Welcome.   :action-smiley-065:

there might not be anyone else taking topamax on this site. i've never taken it. people on here usually don't respond if they don't have an answer to a question. there's a lot of people who stop by this site just to ask a question and are never heard from again. also, a lot of lurkers come around and to look for info. perhaps most of those who have viewed your post aren't even members. do feel free to stick around though. it's a very helpful site.

as for anti-migraine meds, it sounds like lamictal isn't that great of a drug. have ever tried depakote? it treats migraines and agitation too.

Hi interferon,

I did see you were taking topamax.  I know it is used for seizures (which my daughter has but doesn't take that med) and so didn't have any experience with that med.  I do know that it can increase your risk for cataracts--which frankly is why I have avoided putting my daughter on Topamax (she is legally blind and is severly disabled).  Often many meds make you feel doped up or lethargic or nauseous at first.  Most times those side effects subside after being on the meds for a few weeks.

Welcome to the forum.  I'm sorry you felt left out. :sad0125:

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
