Your most annoying anxiety symptoms
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:24:14 AM »
What are your most annoying anxiety symptoms?

I thought we could all talk about this, 1 so we can get it out of system - no matter how embarrassing it is, and 2 so we can relate to eachother and know that a lot of our symptoms are really common!

For me: DEPERSONALIZATION.
This is my most difficult and annoying symptom. This is the most bothersome and I hope to find a cure for this symptom! I will be really relieved.

I think it has produced other symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and confusion.

Nausea, feeling like I am going to pass out, being overheated, rapid heartbeat, and paralyzing fear that death is imminent.

Depersonalization.  It seems to trigger all the other nasties that follow...  :(

The inablility to drive at night, on the highway (day or night), or when the weather's bad. It's so frustrating and limiting. It never fails to make me feel defeated. I feel cut off from the world. Lol, most of the time I wish I could just walk everywhere, but I hate the idea of living in a crowded city where I can actually do that. It makes me feel like a burden on my fiance. He says I'm not. I know I'm not, but the panic is skilled at stopping my logic from reaching its emotional stronghold.

I would love to be able to drive with confidence again. I remember there was a time in my life when I wasn't scared about driving. Even after my major car accident.

All the other sypmtoms I can deal with. I just want to drive without freaking out. What's it going to be like when I have kids? I shudder to imagine panicking on the road with them to take care of.

Most annoying symptom? Hmmm... could I choose just one. They are all extremely annoying, and sometimes frightening. The shortness of breath and dizziness are terrifying, while the depersonalization sometimes will last a day or so for me and that really sucks. So, I guess the depersonalization for me since it can be prolonged for a while

That's me too, but to a lesser degree. I can still drive in all circumstances, but I don't unless I have to. It really has changed my life for the worse. I don't do things that involve driving in those situations unless I have to, which means I schedule my life around that. I've had three major car accidents.

Oh, my latest one (I drive a lot on the highway from near DC to Pittsburgh)...I have this thought that someone ahead on the interstate got on the interstate going the wrong way and is going to head on me coming off what should be an exit ramp. I never had that before two months ago! So frustrating!! And deer too. I hit a deer earlier this year and now I'm constantly freaked out about that. That stuff is all in addition to my normal anxiety.

That stuff is all in addition to my normal anxiety.

Those disturbing thoughts are part of your anxiety.

Your brain will create all sorts of wild and outlandish scenarios for all things. But it's not always doom and gloom.

Right now your anxious mind is turning a simple car drive into some death mssion roller derby.

While I'm on this topic lets talk about the only area of anxiety that people do not talk about:

What's not talked about very often are sexual thoughts. You might have some taboo, kinky or disturbing sexual thoughts that are not representative of you normally, but seem to turn you on while you are in an anxious state. These are harmless and temporary and will pass when the anxiety gets better so do not fear that you have become another person or have grown to like these new things. Yes.. you will like these thoughts that your mind is feeding you even though it's no 'you'.

That being said, if the thoughts are a bit more disturbing (ie: illegal/very shameful), then just try not to feed into them and realize they will pass and it's the anxiety painting these wild pictures, not your normal, healthy usualy self. Even though you seemingly like them, this does not mean that you support or endorse the thoughts. Again its temporary. But still, for this it is recommended not to delve into thoughts that you will regret later when you are better. Anxiety can last months and people still have have needs. If this happens, look for visual stimulation rather than your imagination if your thoughts are something you might regret later because when you are better you will regret your actions and it could give you more reason to be anxious.

depersonalization.  i did alot of reading but never new that term meant that crazy, out of norm feeling that I get.  That scares me sometimes.  Makes me think there is something more to the panic and feelings like I'm going to lose my mind.  My dad had PTSD, my counselor thought he might be schizophrenic too because he talks to people that aren't there.  I worry that that is me.  It's my worst kind of attack ever.  I hate the my mind just keeps trying to feed into it.    :fragend005: :(
