talk about a something worth a panic attack
« on: May 02, 2009, 03:28:21 PM »
I took 4 of my kids to Petsmart.  Today is the day that a pet rescue comes with dogs/cats.  It was a doggy fest today boy.  We are having a great time.  I fell in love with a lhasa, named Madden.  My almost 6 yr old asks for a mint candy.  Fine.  She goes and pets a kitten then comes back to me saying she's choking.  Well she is talking so I know she can breathe.  But it is obviously stuck at the top of her throat.  i have her bend over a bit (oh by the way I'm holding the lhasa, but promptly let go ::) ) and sort of pushing on diaphragm and telling her to gag it up.  We keep going through this.  She is still talking and stuff, so I don't hiemlich her, just encourage her to gag it up.  By now we have several people watching.

Finally a good gag noise that comes with the sound just before you vomit.  Yeah making progress...one more good gag and out it came.  Oh gosh!!!  Everybody breathed a sigh of relief.  Someone got her botteld water.  Then she and I were congratulated on being so calm.  I laughed and said, "Well, I'm good under pressure, but wait til I get home."   hahaha.  It seemed like 10 minutes but is was probably only 2 maybe 3 minutes.

She's fine.  It really scared her though.  Well me too.  But Momma has to be calm during these times.

Now how to get hubby to want to get this dog???????????

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Oh my goodness sixpack! Talk about scary! Glad to hear your daughter is ok! I know it seems like forever when something like this is happening to the kids. I hope the rest of your day went relatively uneventful and that you are somehow working on convincing your husband your family needs this dog. :)
