I Think I Am Insane
« on: September 23, 2006, 11:00:26 PM »
Here is my story...
I've had OCD since I was 12, I am not 15. Lately, I've been having seizures, I am yet to be diagnosed with epilepsy, but doctors are running a lot of tests. One of the symptoms for epilepsy is depersonalazation, something I also suffer from. As well, sleep paraylsis is a symptom for temporal lobe, which is what they think I have. I suffer from sleep paraylsis as well/
Am I insane? I mean, ocd, temporal lack of reality, sleep paraylsis, epilepsy... someone talk to me, here. I mean, everything I have is connected, which is what makes it logical. But I still feel insane, so, someone needs to help me. Whenever I start to think about it, I get nervous and freak out.

Miranda,

I'm sorry that you are having so many scary things happening to you right now. It's good that the doctors are running a lot of tests so you can find out what's going on and what the cause is. I don't know anything about epilepsy, but have had feelings of depersonalization and it's really wierd and scary.

You're not insane. Anxiety can really mess with your head and make you feel that way sometimes. It's really hard to ride out the rough patches, but you can do it. It sounds like you have a lot of different things going on at once, so just try to hang in there while the doctors figure out what's going on. Then you can up with a plan for how to deal with it. There is lots of support here, even if your posts aren't answered right away.

Sending you hugs!   :sad0126:

I dont think your insane because people who are considered insane do not realise there is anything wrong with them and pretty much see others as abnormal not themselves.  You are actively assessing your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours and trying to make sense of it all.  The fact you are unhappy with the way you are feeling shows you are quite sane, hang on in there you will find some coping strategies, I know it is frustrating and adds to your existing anxiety but keep reading the posts there are some fantastic SURVIVORS

yeah, like gloomy said... you arent insane when you can reason enough to think you may be.

Although I have read somewhere that becoming insane is a "slow process" so that makes me worry I am "going" insane slowly over years.  I sure hope that is not the case.  Although if being insane means you don;t know you are, maybe it would be less suffering.  lol

Anyway, you need to tell more probably.  I wonder what eventually led to all of that if the OCD was all that you originally had.  Maybe that developed more and more and somehow did something to you?  ANyway it really sucks that you have to go through that.  :(  I hope you are able to get much better.

Ive had OCD as a child as well.

There is no clinical classification for just "insane".

And typically people dont realize they are.

I had the fear I was loosing my mind for the longest time, It was a tought battle.

Study up on your CBT, and youll realize what Im saying.

Have you ever heard that there is a fine line between insanity, and  genius  ....maybe you're one that line to be able to realize what's happeneing, and trying to prevent it.

You are not losing your mind. If you were, you wouldn't be worrying about it because your actions and thoughts would seem right and normal to you and everyone else would seem crazy or unenlightened.
You are just under a lot of stress and stress can mess with you big time.  You can do spacey things, lose the ability to concentrate, act out and get angry for no reason, think stupid thoughts.  And don't forget you have another stress going on, too.  Puberty.  That messes with emotions and all sorts of other things.
Try and find a way to rest your brain and set aside the worry for awhile.  Maybe you can find a little time each day to just let it go and do something quiet.  If you read, pick a favorite book, or watch a good movie, listen to music, draw, talk with friends about anything but your health, do something to get out side of yourself for a little while.
I know it can get so overwhelming at times and how hard it can be to let it go even for just a little bit, but, please do try.
If you are still concerned talk to your doctor or your parent and if, at any time what so ever, you get so scared or upset that you think you might hurt yourself, talk to someone immediately.

I think its extremely difficult to pin down what insane actually is.  In British psychology the DSM is not used as its an American document.  Britain has its own criteria of diagnosis, however, its very similar to the DSM. it also doesnt include any official diagnosis of insanity.
