Yeah i do, i have plenty of them, for some reason i on't think it works.  I have got some numbers from the doc to go and see a therapist cause i really think this is something medication is not going to fix.

I got through the night thankfully by drinking a bit. The next morning was not good when i saw how messy the house was.  :sprachlos020:

Hey Janey

I'm currently undergoing therapy for a similar obsession, as well as others, and it really does help a lot. I took medications (mostly Zoloft) for OCD for years, and things never improved that much. Therapy really can make the difference though, I should have done it a long time ago.

Its well worth trying out. Im reading Brain Lock at the moment by Jeffrey Schwartz, which is quite useful in dealing with these obsessions if you havent come across it already.

Hi Steve23,

Thanks for your advice.

I am looking into finding a therapist at the moment. Can i get the book from a regular book shop?

Also, any advice in the mean time on these obsessions?

Hey Janey

Thats ok. Brain Lock is a pretty popular book as far as OCD goes, so you may well be able to find it in a bookstore. If not, you'd be able to get it on www.amazon.com pretty cheap. Theres another one I just got too, "Imp of the Mind". Havent read it yet but it looks pretty good, and was recommended to me by my doc.

Im pretty new to therapy, but I find it helps to deliberately expose myself to situations that bring on the obsessing and compulsing. Like with contamination obsessions, you could try deliberately getting dirt on your shoes, or picking up a stone in the garden, etc. Its really hard at first, but Ive found it helps and you slowly desensitize yourself to it. I also found "delaying" a compulsion I perform by counting to ten or whatever in my head, and then gradually building up that time of delay, is quite effective. Its my "homework" therapy, or so they call it. Its good stuff though.

Good luck with finding a therapist!

Hi Steve23,

Have found an OCD chat group in my area which i will check out i think, just to talk to other people.

My area is not familiar to behaviour therapy so i will have to research a bit.

I have found myself trying to teach myself to do certain things a certain way, which i say has been helping a little.

Hope you are well!! :wavey:
