Big time anxiety in restaurants and church
« on: April 09, 2009, 07:07:51 PM »
OK...This is getting very wierd now. For the last few months every time I am at a restaurant or church I get horrible panic attacks. It starts with me feeling slightly dizzy and then I start noticing my breathing difficulties and upset stomach. I finally just have to leave. Has anyone experienced panic attack related to certain places. I swear this is driving me nuts and it takes me hours to finally calm down.

This doesn't happen to me personally.  But I've known folks that it does happen to.  I'm quite certain that there are those here that experience this as well.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Stosh,

Its the demons in ya! They dont like church!

Seriously though, I now get that at church as well.  Never had issues at church. (or anywhere).  After 3 months of this massive anxiety garbage (short compared to most in here) I get the rapid pulse etc etc at church now.  Its really quite getting me upset.  I can barely even focus at church and often have to get up and go out and pace.

Bless ya
Jeff

I get anxious around crowds, so the shopping center is not my favorite place to be, especially around times like this when it is super busy due to Easter. Normally, I won't get out of there without having sweat through all of my clothes with panic. I know, sexy huh?  :P

When I'm in church I usually feel funny and weak and am using the chair in front of me as support to help me stand. I'm always wishing the songs would end so I could just sit down. Obviously if I were the only person under 80 sititng down I would get kind of stared at. But it's not that bad for me, definately not something that prevents me from going.

I've had worse problems in restraunts but I kind of just now realized that was the anxiety. I haven't been in one in quite a while so I forgot about it. But before I found out I had anxiety disorder when I was little I once went home from a restraunt genuinly believing I was sick. I often get really hot and didn't feel to well. Not knowing what was wrong with me my mom usually attributed it to just being really warm or stuffy in the restraunt and me going outside to get fresh air a few times throughout the night and not eating much. But it's nice to finally realize what the problem was all those years. Again like church it's not something that is too bad. It doesn't stop me from going, and I usually just end up eating only part of my dinner and taking the rest home.
