I hate the twitching. I do it all the time. My scalp, my face, my back, even my arms sometimes twitch. It sucks. The last thing I ever worry about is MS. I don't know why but I don't. I worry about things like brain tumors and cancer.

HI!
I totally know how you feel!! Let me assure you if you had any serious disease you would not be twitching EVERYWHERE! Twitching everywhere is called BENIGN Fasciculation Syndrome and as the word says is BENIGN! Noone really knows what causes it but it is well known that anxiety and stress makes it worse!
I went through this about 2 years ago and for a whole year thought I was dying and that my muscles were atrophy-ing.  I went as far as measuring/comparing my muscles and being convinced they were shrinking! I had 2neuro appts, numerous tests and still didn't believe it was benign.
After reading all I could about this I finally convinced myself that I was not dying.  Again, if you had anything serious you would not be twitching everywhere, it would be concentrated in one area AND you would notice weakness LONG before your twitching had started.  If you are walking, not tripping, not dropping things, not running into things, YOU ARE FINE! Please don't go through the hell that I went through! I know it's hard to believe that this is NOTHING SERIOUS but it's true!
I remember twitching all over being scared to death! Believe it or not, these days I hardly twitch at all! Again, I notice it when I experience extreme stress or anxiety.  There are so many people that have gone through this and that must be a comforting thought.
Hang in there and trust me, there is nothing wrong with you! You would have many more symptoms if there was!

Fubar, I think Elen's post is right on the money. In neurological diseases associated with twitching, MS and ALS being the two big ones that people worry about, a sufferer would not get muscle twitches all over. Looking at MS in particular, the plaques that form in the brain and spinal cord develop gradually over an extended period of time. In order for someone with MS to be twitching all over, they would need to have many lesions throughout their CNS (something which you do not have, because if you did, you would be suffering from other, much more severe symptoms).

From what you've posted, you certainly do not sound like someone with MS.

Thanks Parrotsmuggler and everyone else, I guess your right, I'd be alot worse by now.  Sometimes I guess you just need a little pep talk, and simply just some common sense.  Maybe I'll go to the next thought then, Lyme.  It causes widespread tingling and twitching, oh no, just can't stop the thoughts that go through my mind!! LOL.  Good night, happy chatting, now hopefully tonight will be a better night than last night, all I had was insomnia for the past 2 nights.. Good night, good night, don't let the bed bugs bite!!!

Yes, this sounds like BFS. I`ve had this. I twitch EVERYWHERE 24/7 when I have it. Mine lasts for few weeks at the time, and then it goes away. Along with these twitches you may feel tingling, pins and needles, cramping etc. My first period lasted like 3 months. It feels crazy, I know. It seems like our nerve endings are really irritated!

If you have any questions about this, I think I can help.

As far as I`ve understood, twitching is not really MS symptom at all. It can be if you`ve had MS for a decade or something, but twitching is not sign of MS. ALS twitching is not random, all over twitching. And like Elen said, there would be true weakness with it. ALS starts from some point (like your left leg), and when it starts twitching is not something you would worry about!

Hey, it`s OK to twitch all over  ;*)

BTW. Try taking some magnesium. It won`t heal it, but may calm down it a little.

This has happened to me for many, many years. I have been through all the scares you guys have been through. Als,  Ms.....but this has been going on for 10 years. Amazing it does not progress...that is because it is BFS. Now let me share with you that works. I have vit 13 every day along with Magnisem and you will see the twitches decrease to almost nothing. I hardly get them now unless I am super stressed. Best of luck to all of you

I remember one funny thing. When I was twitching like nuts, I went to see a doctor. He just said I should take some magnesium. I bought best magnesium pills I could find. I took first one, and immediately twitching was gone for two days! I realized it was just placebo, but so what. Twitches came back, and magnesium started to really work maybe after a week or so.
I do some self-hypnosis exercises. First I started to twitch every time I was in a "hypnosis", because of relaxation, I guess. But now I`ve learned to control it. I had an idea, when I`m in this hypnosis state, I would "turn things around". I mean I began to expect I would twitch, and it`s only a good thing and a sign of relaxation. After a few "sessions" I did not twitch anymore. Then I began to tell my body (in hypnosis) what part of my body I want to twitch. You know what, it works nearly everytime! I mean, I might think "I want my left thigh to twitch now", and after a few seconds left thigh do a few twitches :dazed:

Mind is so damn powerful tool. I wish I could use it to something else someday.

I've heard magnesium helps with anxiety, so maybe that's why the twitching stopped.
