new here, anyone have problems w/insomnia and sweats at night??
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:08:55 AM »
Hello,

I am new and need some encouragement. I have anxiety almost daily now and always have had it but it has gotten really out of control since July when I had a couple of health scares. I have taken xanax on an as needed basis for a couple of years but never daily. When I had the health worries that I really blew out of proportion, I started to take it nightly for sleep. I took it for 3 weeks and then just stopped cause I was afraid of dependency. Well within a day or 2 I felt horrible, I was very anxious and nauseus, palpatations, worse insomnia with night sweats. I went to the doctor after 4 days of that and I would not take anymore xanax cause I thought after 3 weeks of continuous use I got dependent. My doctor said I was not addicted I just had anxiety disorder and gave me klonopin and said he would rather me take that than xanax everyday or when needed. I did not like klonopin that much so after a few days I stopped again and there were all the symptoms again. After a week or more I went to see a different doctor in that same office and she said I could indeed get dependent after 3 weeks of xanax and to take it and gradually decrease the dose of .5 over a few weeks and to get a pill splitter to cut it down. I did that and it has been 2 weeks since taking it and I am better but still haveing insomnia and night sweats, I do not soak the bed or have to change clothes when the sweats come on but I worry about why I am sweating????? I want to know if any of you have insomnia with sweating and believe it is anxiety??? My doctors both say it is anxiety but i worry of course so much that I am ill or something is wrong other than anxiety. I am 34 so could it be hormonal??? I have hypothyroid but the tsh level is normal, could it be female hormones perimenopausal??? I can deal with insomnia not freaking me out but the sweating really bothers me and makes me worry so bad.  Any advice would be so appreciated to get me out of this anxiety nightmare.

My friend has Hypothyriodism...actually she has large goiters in her thyriod and the specialists still say because her tests are all in the norm that there is nothing wrong with her thyriod?!!!

Yeah..if there's goiters, there is something wrong with her thyroid.  Anyway she suffers sweating at night and on and off during the day.  A thyriod symptom.  She went to another homeopath thyriod specialist and is now on meds.  She doesnt sweat so bad.

So maybe the insomnia is cause of the anxiety and the sweating from the thyriod.  Actually I understand anxiety is also a symptom of thyriod problems.

I by no means know exactly what I'm talking about but I thought I'd share cause you seem like you need something of some sort.

I know how you feel.  I have anxiety really bad and just latley I have started with the hot flashes, yesterday I was hot all day to the point where I was sweating.  I also have a really hard time sleeping.  I think going without sleep brings on a lot of my anxiety.  I do take xanax.  Started taking 1/2 of a 1mg, that helped for a while, now I take a whole one.  I am like you, I am so afraid of additction, but when a person goes 2 or 3 days not sleeping more than an hour a night you have to do something.   I go back to the Dr this week, guess I will see what she says.  I really hope you feel better soon.  Take care!

I sleep OK most times but if I am anxious then I wake up during the night and wake up in the morning extremely anxious. I wake up hot and sweaty.

I have had this at different times in my life. One time it went on for weeks...I thought I had HIV (because that is a sign) Ended up I had nothing and they went away. I was very anxious at this time so I guess it was because of that. I still have them when I am very anxious. If you have had things ruled out medically...I would not worry about it.

Hi there:

A blood test would confirm if you are perimenopausal.  I was a great sleeper.  Even if I was very worried.  But once menopause hit insomnia started.  I was lucky in that I didn't have the sweats.  As the years went by, the insomnia got worse.  Last year I was going to work with 6 to 10 hours sleep per week.  My doctor is sending me to a sleep clinic.  Even if you don't have sleep apnea I am told they are helpful.

Ask you family doctor for a referral to a female gynocologist.  They are more understanding and have literally hands on experience with this.

Oh and don't worry, my friends and I we miss our minds the most.

Being a woman is great but then it is tough.

You are normal.
