pat is currently in intensive care and the doc's are doing all they can to remove the blood clot.sammy said she would try to pop on later hopefully with an update.sammy has thanked everyone for looking out for patricia.

Hello, this is PatriciaAmber’s carer, Sammy.
Any of you in chat tonight will have seen this already, but haging found this here, I have decided to add to what Maria has already said.

As some of you may know she was taken into hospital this morning at about 2am, being unable to breath. To let you know how she is doing now. She has been diagnosed with severe and possibly life-threatening pulmonary embolism, Pat has been moved to the ICU, and has been put on a life support machine to help her week body. She is using a tracheotomy and ventilator to help her breath now.
Doctors are trying to treat her with medications, but they have to be careful because of other medications she takes already and the knock on affect to her heath and other conditions, the mixing or changing of her medications is one of the biggest dangers to Pat.. Good news however is that she is conscious, and missing her friends from this site. She wants to know how everyone is doing.

------

Just spoken with the carer working with Pat tonight 11:30pm (UK). Pat still has the doctors worried, which is understandable, she has not been there a day yet. She has asked many times today to have her computer so she can get into here. The doctors are not allowing it. She appears to be more concerned with people in here, than her own health, which is always her personality. She does not seem to be in pain, and she seems relatively happy.

Had a call from the carer with Pat 1am (UK). Pat is fighting the life support machine, so she has been taken off of it. But she will be monitored very closely, if they think she could do with the help they will not hesitate to put her back on it.

My name is Julia, I am Patricia’s carer and key worker, I visited her today in hospital, and passed on all of your prayers and good wishes, that she was very grateful for. She asked me to pass on to all of her friends on this site, that she is thinking of all of you, and hoping that you are all well.
Anyway what you all want to know, I am sorry to say, Patricia is not doing too well today, she is having many seizures due to being taken off of her anticonvulsant  medications, they are a big concern to her health, and for that reason she has been put back on the ventilator. The doctors are worried that she is not showing any real improvement in her overall condition, but they are hoping things will start improving very shortly.

On a personal note I would like to thank everyone for the care and good wishes she has been shown through this site. Many thanks.

Julia.

Sammy here, I have just had a call from the carer who is with Pat, it is not looking to good at the moment, she is on oxygen but her sats are around 85% for long periods, this can be really dangerous, the doctors are worried that she is slipping into a coma. The doctors are unsure what the best  treatment for Pat is, the worry is that her body will not be strong enough for treatment, or operations. I do not have any more information than that at the moment. Sorry it is not good news.

Thank you for yout thoughts, they will be passed on to Pat.
Pat has many health conditions, and proberly got the pulmonary embolism, because of poor cirulations and sitting all day. She refused to use her stander.

Julia is on the way to the hospital now. The doctors want to chance the treatment they are giving Pat, and Julia is the one who can authorise treatment for Pat. when I hear more I will let you know.

The doctors and Julia have talked and come to the conclusion that the best treatment would be to operate and try to remove the clot. This is a very risky operation for Pat. The decision was not taken lightly, if she comes through the operation there is a big chance that there will be complications from the low sats for so long. The doctors reckon the chance of operating on Pat and there being no complications is about 18%, the chance of any level of complications after the operation is about 38%. I am sure those of you good at maths can work out that leaves 44% chance of Pat not making it through. Julia was presented the other options which were not as hopeful as operating.
Pat is being prepared for the operation now, and will have the operation as soon as everything is organised. I will let you know when I hear anything further.

I have heard from Julia, Pat has gone into surgery the doctors said they would be about 3-4 hours. So that will be early shift. That know any good news. Julia has gone home now (I had to get her to come into work to make the decision). The carer who is there now will call me if there is any news, before the operation should be up. I will try and get early shift to update the forum if I do not hear anything. If not Julia will when she starts at 1pm.

Sorry there is not more good news.

Hello Julia here.
Sorry you have not been updated for a while, but in this case no news was good news. Patricia came out of surgery just after 10AM this morning. There were a couple of scares and Patricia had to be resuscitated, but overall Patricia was fighting, and fought well. Patricia has not regained consciousness yet but that is because the doctors think that keeping her sedated will help her recover faster. Since the operation though things are starting to look good, her blood oxygen levels are stable and high, 96%. Of course she is still in ICU and will remain there for a few more days at least, but the doctors are happy with her progress. If she stays settled or improving for the rest of the day Patricia will be reclassified as critical but stable.
I am glad that I can finaly update you with some good news.

Once again thank you for all the support, good wishes and prayers that have been given to Patricia.

No more news really, Pat is doing as well as can be expected and has been moved to the critical but stable list, the doctors are hoping to wake her in the morning. Pat is breathing well with her bi-pap, hopefully when she is woken in the morning and remains doing well then she will be classed as stable.

Finally some really good news for everyone.
Just had a call from the carer with Pat, she is now awake already, and without having any assessments yet, they think she is doing well. Pat needs to have tests and scans tomorrow to make sure though.

Right. I have not been given a time that Pat will be in hospital for but I am guessing it will be 5 weeks at least.

I am not going to provide any more updates on Pat, because I do not see why I should have to take the accusations I have taken the past couple of days. This is not in my job description. When early shift take over in the morning, we will have the staff meeting and it will be discussed there. This web site, or its members are not next of kin to our resident Patricia, and therefore in my opinion, should not be told personal information.
