Why do we treat our family members so badly?

I always notice that I have a hard time being respectful to my mom and dad.  But I'm almost always nicer towards my friend's parents.  I read a fairly recent article online (but I can't find it) which explains (a little) about why we are often mean to our family members.  It tells us why they get on our nerves more than other people do.  I don't know why, but most of the time I find it hard to be nice to my family.  Anyone else in my boat?

I think a good idea i have at least for why i sometimes feel like that is because
you hate it but you see yourself in them
its like a mirror
like you don't want to have to see yourself that closely
that is more true for brothers and sisters and stuff probably though

other than that all i could say is just i duno
its like when you get in a relationship with someone for a long time and you know eachothers weaknesses and you know how to use them against them and things just get a little hostile or something

That could be.  I also notice that if my mom or dad tells me to "shut up" or if they tell me off, it doesn't bother me.  But if a friend's mother (or father) does it, it upsets me and hurts my feelings very badly.

It's unlikely that it's all you.  Yes some peiople, including me, are oversensitive, but it's rare that everything is one side doing it.  A lot of family members and friends are rude towards anxiety sufferers by having pretty much a "anxiety is no big deal.  get voer it" mentality.  Half the people on THIS site act that way, even.
