Welcome. You sound exactly like me. I started drinking to rid myself of the stress caused by all of the horrible "diseases" I was so sure I had. Once I discovered that I didn't have these diseases (through lots of medical tests), it was too late because I was already addicted to alcohol and now I am still struggling to overcome my addiction. You are not alone and you have lots of friends here who want to help and support you through this difficult time in your life. Self-medication is very common with people like us. You are not alone.

I've been there! I  always liked my beers and scotch but after the trauma of my first sons birth and subsequent problems with my wife and her parents I real upped the intake. In the end I was drinking a pint plus of whiskey a day. No one ever saw me drunk but no one ever saw me sober. I've been sober for three months now. It's not easy and I'm a lot more dependant on the Xanax but recover is a hard road. Keep it up, it's worth it in the end!
