Massage Therapy
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:31:36 PM »
Any one else try this for a deep relaxation day?

I've been having Massage therapy done on my scar tissue at a medical facility.  It's been very beneficial, usually just 15 to 30 minutes.  It was really good.  But, because of the pain from the scar tissue, the rest of my body was pretty tense and in pain.  I scheduled an hour long session with the massage therapist at his studio in another location.  OMG!!!  Not only do I wonder if I stumbled on to legal prostitution for women (who needs sex???? This was WAY better!), but I left feeling very calm, happy, and focused.  Prior to my appointment today I was pretty stressed out.  I went into the office to get a few hours of work in since work is NUTS and I really didn't want to stay late all week trying to play catch up only to find out that I couldn't work... the facility and IT folks started moving cubicles.  I saw the Sr Manager kind of freaking out about the situation... not cool.  So, I went to Bath and Body works, stocked on all my faves because they were only $3 on sale, drove home.  When I walked in the door, I stepped into a pile of cat vomit.  Cleaned that up, started to vaccuum the stairs, the vaccuum fell off the step it was on and landed on my head (I was on a lower step on the stair case cleaning the stairs).  Hubby and I were having some tense moments this morning so I called him at work to apologize, but he was still on the defensive mode and kind of blew me off... things just weren't going my way!  So off I went to massage therapy thinking I'd probably fall off the table, or that we were only going to do an hour of the painful stuff.  NOPE!!  My day did a 180!!  It felt soooooooooo good to get that relaxed!!!!

Since I had to stop Lexapro and all SSRI's for now, I think that's what I'm going to take up... instead of paying for pills, I think I'll pay for massages.  The best $70 I've ever spent.  I've had many massages before, but this definitely was over the top!

All you need to do now is get your husband to learn how to massage and you are set for life.

Oh I just looooove massages.  My doctor's np gave me a 'permission' slip for one.  She says that sometimes you can get insurance to pay.  I haven't gone yet though.

My hubby does do massages and he is pretty good too.  But those trained in doing the massage mmmmm

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
