losing control !!!
« on: January 22, 2009, 11:55:05 AM »
Hi, I have GAD an i'am also a hypochondriac, when I'am stressed and my anxiety is really bad I have no patience at all and the smallest thing makes me snap (such as someone taking to long to pay for something in a grocery store line) it enrages me, i often yell and lose my patience with my husband and children too, i know it is due to my anxiety but i feel terrible after i do it, does anyone else have this issue with anxiety, how do u cope with it?

Hey there.

I have read that aggressiveness is a common symptom of anxiety. I also have experienced this feeling myself over the last week. I almost look at it like a grieving process, first I had shock, then incredible sadness and now I feel more angry about it. I have a husband and two girls and I am doing my best not to yell at them when I feel frustrated or sorry for myself as they have been very comforting and supportive through this horrible ordeal. The kids especially have no idea whats going on except that "fun" mom is gone for now. What I do to relieve the built up frustration is I take time to myself and let it out, usually by yelling then crying...it does help ALOT!

Anxiety, depression, OCD what have you are all so very frustrating and incredibly difficult conditions to deal with, but we will be better people once gone through them, we will value life, relationships and health all the more. I would not beat yourself up over being snappy, but I would suggest trying some relaxation techniques or venting in healthier ways that do not impact those around you.

Listening to music really helps me release alot of emotion, along with talking to a supportive friend, or mate.

Cheers!

Yes, venting out your frustrations is the ONLY way to deal with your anger or passive-agressiveness. I for one have a punching bag, but yelling or crying also helps a lot, find whatever works for you, but you need to release the anger or pent up frustration

Cheers

Yes don't be like me and let it build up to the point where you go O F F on people, sometimes to let it out all I can do at the moment is rip paper to shreds - but it helps! Or find something small and inconspicuous to break.....but please keep aware that if you lose it someone might see or unfortunately get hurt....
