Any Suggestions on good, fast acting antianxiety meds?
« on: September 03, 2006, 10:31:28 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this site and am really enjoying reading everyones posts. I am 31 and have had very severe GAD for 13 years now. It always effects my breathing making me feel tight in the chest and I always feel like I just can't get enough oxygen. I quit smoking 2 years ago, due to my breathing, and was completely convinced that I had emphysema. I have gone to the ER several times in the beginning of all of this thinking I was about to die from my lungs collapsing. Always to find out that there was nothing wrong with me, making me feel like more of a nut than I already do. I have absolutely no moral support from my husband, he is convinced that I do this for attention. I wish that that was the case because then I wouldn't feel so uptight helpless and frustrated all the time. It is always there, but definitely acts up more during times of extreme stress and I just can't control it. If there is anyone out there who has anxiety that does this to them also and could suggest a good working antianxiety med or just help me to realize I'm not alone,,,,I'd appreciate a reply back..

Oh mickjill  this is a crappy symptom thats for sure.   my doctor to perscribe me "Clonazepam" .  Many doctors are scared to perscribe these because of the addictive possibilities, but I only take it as needed.

Clonazepam is a godsend for me.  When I cant handle my anxiety or I have an attack I take one of these and within 10-15 minutes I calm down.  It works longer than xanax and less people complain of side effects.

What I like is I dont feel drugged by them.  I just calm down enough to get rid of the breathing difficulties, head feelings and shaking.  And it slows down my brain so I can focus on one thing at a time.

Maybe its something you could think about :happy0151:

on page 3.   http://www.anxietyzone.com/index.php/topic,223.0.html  I have a table of different meds...you could look at it, maybe research them, or print it out and take it to your doctor to talk about.

Hope this helps.

klonpin and xanax are good for anxiety but are highly addictive as I found out after just 3 weeks of taking xanax daily for anxiety and sleep. I can take than as needed and have good results but do not take daily or more tan a couple times a week cause your body can go through withdrawals and you will feel worse than the anxiety that put you on them. Be cautious.
