<--Newbie here freaked out with many symptoms.
« on: September 01, 2006, 08:57:15 AM »
Hello all

This is my first time posting here, although I've been browsing for a while now.

For the past 2-3 years, I've been freaking out due to the many symptoms I have, and due to the self-diagnosis sites and (un)helpful friends, It's just making me feel worse.  What I'm currently most afraid of is skin cancer & HIV/AIDS.  About 3 years ago I've taken an HIV/AIDS test, but I haven't been told anything so I was relieved, but only for a short while.  Recently I've noticed an increase in moles on me, and also some red dots(small about the size of a spec).  Also, I feel like I have a hard time breathing because it feels like my airway is a little clogged, and this has given me a habit to cough a lot.  In the mornings, I notice that when I take a deep breath, I feel a little wheezing around the end of the breath which also scares me a lot since I think it's pneumonia(+ AIDS = death to me).  This has been happening for about 2 years.  Does pneumonia even last that long?

Has anyone else had these symptoms before?  Does increases in moles and a few little red dots on the skin mean anything?  I am just seriously scared, in fact I'm shaking while typing this.

I've also been told my white blood count was a little high about a half a year ago, and this freaked me out too, thinking that I might have leukemia, and when I went to the clinic again about 3 weeks ago, it still was a little high.  But when I went to get a blood test two days ago, the results were all fine and I was told its all back to normal.  Which I'm relieved to hear.

Does this all connect?  Or is this all part of Health Anxiety?  I haven't been treated or diagnosed with HA, but does anyone think this is HA?  I've had panic attacks before, and I'm always scared of my health and think I have HA(which I HOPE I do, way better than having HIV/AIDS).

I hate living like this everyday.  Its just scary.

Hi,

Don't worry about the red dots on your body, I went through this months back.

You will find most people have them and they are nothing serious.

I also have red dots, it is fine.  The only thing about the moles is if they start growing quickly and have very odd shapes (not just like an oval instead of round).

As far as HIV just get tested, you can now get these tests in the pharmacy.  I used to be scared too but have had a few tests and am fine.  But the very worse case scenerio if you had AIDs (which are sooo slim unless you have the risk factors dirty needles, unsafe tatoo needles, male sex with a male) they have losts of treatments now and people are not just dying as in the past.   I know someone whose has had AIDs for a long time and he is fine.  He takes very good care of himself and takes his meds.

Anyway I didnt mean to scare you with the AIDS thing but to let you know it is okay.  Just get tested.

Thanks all for your relpies!  It really helped me out.  But my anxiety hit again...I sorta convinced myself get get tested of everything listed here, but this got me so scared of the results that I started to get dizzy and almost faint.  Because of this now I'm too scared to see the doctor.  I don't think I can handle any bad news from the doctor at all.  His words might end up killing me at the spot.
